A huge set back

So Dec 4th i had a huge set back on my third gen.

its a 1991 firebird formula t-tops, which i bought from a buddy from work for $2000. which is where i been fixing it her up. i have done everything so far myself exhaust, full tune up, new ttops new diff bearings axel bearings, tinting of windows, finding misc parts, the last thing i needed to do was a paintjob which i was planing on doing this summer.

i was at work with the truck and my wife had to go pick up my daughter @ school her only transportation was the firebird fine she knows how to handle the car. well to make things short my wife was turning left and a guy in f250 missed that same street decided to stop quickly back up on a street. well at the same time my was turning left and his bumper hit my driver side quarter panel and nose piece. when i seen it iwas like so again a huge set back.

dont get me wrong i didnt look the best but i had it running awesome.

We have some of the parts you need available on our site. We have a front bumper cover as well but we haven't listed it on our site yet.

Re: A huge set back

call junk yards and try thirdgenranch.

ive heard tooooooo many bad things about youngsthirdgen. they take forever to get you your parts and hardly answer the phone or return calls. that kinda stuff. plus pricey. jsut not worth the hassel

thirdgen is a good place to start. but shipping will hurt ya. so if you can drive to a junk yard and swap off parts there. that would be your best bet.

also might wana take it to a shop to make sure the frame is still straight.

goodluck

Re: A huge set back

Well, first things first... Your car isn't a Formula. Formulas didn't have ground effects. What you've got is a V8 base model Firebird. Since the V8 Firebird used the same V8 as the entry level Formula, they're in the same insurance class, so insurance cards and other related paperwork usually say "Firebird/Formula" or something to that basic effect. If you buy a "Formula" front bumper, it won't have the foglights or provisions for the front GFX.

Beyond that, the fender is exactly the same from 82-92, as long as they're from a Firebird, Formula, or GTA, they're the same part. The headlight assembly was 91-92 specific. Some of the parts may interchange with earlier cars, but for a direct bolt in, stick with a 91-92 Firebird donor car. The front bumper was used on some/most base model 91-92 Firebirds, Trans Am, and GTA. Also keep in mind the front lower ground effects are discontinued, and nearly impossible to find. You'll probably have to repair the old panel if it's damaged.

Check out www.car-part.com it'll let you search major junkyards for the parts you're hunting. It'll save you a bunch of phone calls, and potentially some shipping. Good luck with it, it looks like a fairly light hit.

Re: A huge set back

Drew thanks for the info but i think they had this car special ordered from factory not sure. the side emblems have the glue or what ever they used to tack the names on it. and you can see it did say formula. which im sure the formula didnt come with the ground fx. if i remember correctly they like the ground fx but wanted the v8. i wish they went with the 350 but i know they didnt couple the t5 with the 350. but thank you anyways lot of good info.

keep up people i need all the help i can get i am fairly new to the third gen bought the car last july and love it well minus the power but still a fun car.

Re: A huge set back

The Formula had large 4" tall call outs down the door reading "Formula". If you're talking about the spot on the fenders just above the body line, that's where the "Firebird" badges were on Firebirds. Formulas didn't have that emblem. Also the Formula had the offset bulge hood, 16" wheels, and wrap around wing. What you've got there is a L03 Firebird with the W68 option, but it's not a Formula. It's a really common misconception. If you've still got a SPID you can verify it yourself.

Here's some reading material on the differences between the various 91 Firebirds. The links below each image go to larger versions that are easier to read.
