Hatch glass is looking rough

I've noticed that the brownish defrost line down the hatch glass on my car is looking kind of cruddy, it is darker in spots and lighter in others, did the cars come from the factory with it looking like this? I don't know if tint would solve this problem. I really don't want to tint too much because the cops around here are bad about that, and you can only have 35% here. What can I do? Buy a new hatch? Is that expensive?

I bet you could get used glass pretty cheap. Finding one in good condition might be hard though.

That sounds like a pretty good price to me.

Re: Hatch glass is looking rough

If your defrost lines are rusting you can use some real fine steel wool and get them clean. If your talking about the lil black parts on the side of the the back window...they make a product that you can paint? on to make it look all new again. Personally I would tint your back window to like 5 or 20% and then just use a permanent marker to fill in the lil black side parts. People have been using permanent maker on those locations to hide it for a long time. Doesnt look perfect but it does help hide it.

Oh ya btw...Personally if I were to buy a new back window it would be without defrost lines. They just make it harder to tint and make it a PITA to clean the back window. Also for the little amount of "cold" driving I do with the car I have never once needed my back defroster.

Is the defroster grid "inside" the glass or can it be scraped off ?

It's in the glass. There are the black defrost lines going across the window and the brown lines that follow the bottom part of the glass.

Thanks, that's what I thought. My hatch glass is darkly tinted but you can still see the orange lines. Some day I will get a hatch glass without the defroster.
