Bolt broken during hatch strut replacement

Okay, so I go to change the hatch lifts on my '84 z28 and the head of the 8 mm bolt that holds the rear end of the hatch strut to the hatch breaks off. Because of the angle of the support block that it connects to I cannot drill it out. The strut is on the car and working but if someone accidentially bumps it then the strut will pop off. Does anyone have any ideas for keeping the strut on there if I cannot drill out what is left of the bolt? Thanks for your help.

Re: Bolt broken during hatch strut replacement

Id take another nut, flip it upside down, weld the head of the nut your using to the broke piece, then use a wrench to back it out. Might ruin the new strut, but least your able to put a new one one the way it should be. Hope this helps
