Anyone used rubberized undercoating?
I have the trans out of my car now and was thinking about spraying the underside of the car with this. It isnt anything special, just the stuff you can get at discount. Its not the bedliner stuff either. Just seeing if anyone has used this to try to dampen some of the road noise and to make a more durable coating than just paint.

I've never used it myself but I've heard that the coating can crack and harbor moisture. Not sure if it's true but sounds possible to me. Just something to think about.

Re: Anyone used rubberized undercoating?
There was a post in the restoration/history board about someone using "Herculiner". Same thing as Rhino Liner for truck beds, looked good when he was done.
I've used the rubberized undercoating and wasn't impressed. Spent a lot of time doing prep work for it, and it cracked. Plan on using the Herculiner next time.
Good luck

i've used it with great success ....need to get a quality brand....like 3M or similar..also spray it in realtively thin layers so when it "shrinks" it doesn't crack.....works great in wheel wells after you've painted a car and there's overspray you want to cover up...

Does it actually help with road noise?

I used it in the wheel wells of my car and liked it. It definitely kills noise, although my tests have only involved knocking on the metal since the car hasn't seen the road yet.
If you are looking for a durable coating to protect the underside of the car, I would suggest bed liner. You can get it in spray cans and it is much more durable than rubberized undercoating

I would also stay away from using cheap undercoating. I used it both on the underside of my Camaro and truck (before I knew better) and even with proper prep water gets behind it and creates a great place to harbor rust. If anything I would suggest laying down a good sealant before adding the undercoating.

i like the idea of the bed liner material, but how do you apply it? do you need to buy a special gun to spray it? is it a two part liquid?

Re: Anyone used rubberized undercoating?
If I do the spray on bedliner, it will be in a spray can like spray paint. I'm sure there are better versions, but I dont have money for them. Plus I live in Florida so I'm not as worried about rust as some of you northern people.
