Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
YES!! 3rd gens cannot pull off rounded hoods. I'm sorry guys but I would never buy a ram air 1 or 2 hood. They were meant for 4th gens and 4th gens only. We need to be creative here and think of a new design. Everyone is trying to think of spinoffs on designs that already exist and personally, I hate all the existing hoods except maybe a small cowl. I'd like to see something that doesn't rise way up but that has some sort of venting/heat extraction on it and it has to fit the body lines. The only hood at the moment I would trade my stock TA hood for is a power buldge formula hood. I would LOVE to see a hood for our cars but it has to fit the part. I'm going to draw up a few designs and see what I can come up with.

The firebirds have a real lousy hood line to make a nice looking hood that fits the boxiness of the car, so you first need to change the lines on the hood.....like so. Notice the two lines up the hood on either side are now closer to the center, and more squared like the camaros design.

I think simple is better on third gens. Heres a quick LT1 trans am style hood I drew up for a third gen. I'm working on a few more ideas.

Heres a quick heat extractor style hood. Could work for single or twin turbo cars if they were made functional.

see im picturing a GTA (there is a guy on here that made his GTA hood functional by cutting the underpart of the vents so RA is pointless to me) style hood with the middle of the hood just bulged up. like stay flush until you start to pass the stock vents then start a subtle rake upwards.....rising 2"-3" by the time it gets to windshield. 3" would be cool with like a cutout for a 4 inch guage.

I'm still a fan of FYRCHKNs hood, with or without the Heat extractor.
Here it is PS onto my car. Was still in rough shape.

Me? I'd go for either a nice RA1 hood like on the Polly motorsports GTA (http://pollymotorsport.no) or a lightweight stock TA/GTA hood.

Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
As long as the lines start at the corners of the raised part of the front bumper, I think it would work out and look just fine. I hate hoods that start narrow, like at the lines on the bumper and get wide as hell towards the back of the car. Just looks goofy to me. I would love more than anyone to see a hood designed that actually accents the car but every single one out currently just looks downright dumb on these cars....not to mention a lot of them are based off camaro hoods or newer trans am hoods (ram air) which I don't think looks right either. By far my favorites are still the power buldge and the stock trans am hood.

Part #CHA169 Ships truck freight weighs 45lbs Costs $424.00 (+shipping)
http://www.fiberpartsconcepts.com/1289627.html

And yes, they still make it to this day. On Dec. 12, 2009, they told me.....
"Hey Stephen!
Yes, we do still produce the "Isma" style 82-92 F/bird hood....In fact we have sold 2 in the last few weeks!
It is an awesome hood! We also make a "Ram-Air style, and a 3" cowl induction hood, all of wich are listed on our website. Please let me know if you would like to order one, or have any other questions?!!!? thanks, Rob"

Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
I'm leaning more towards taking the Sunoco-style "bulge" and adding the heat extractor like FYRCHKN made into it - It'll make it look a little less like a simple cowl hood... keep the ideas comin' - this hood is for you Firebird owners!
The other thing to consider is if we did a style like I just mentioned, would you want the raised part to end BEFORE it meets the windshield like FYRCHKN's does (like the Formula bulge does)?

I fixed my 'chop with his extractor in the hood......
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...03-post60.html
My biggest dream has been the Jongbloed/Sunoco hood (same hood, different names), which was why I did the 'chops.
Just never have found a manufacturer willing to make my 'chop. Always hemming & hawing about doing it, or too busy with 5th gen stuff, after it finally came out for sale to the public.
One thing about doing the heat extractor though.....Unlike the Camaros, Firebirds can already barely fit a STB across the plenum, without it being a different STB than what fits the Camaros. So be careful where the heat extractor is, or it'll run into peoples STBs or even a TPI plenum or air intake.

I had always wanted a Firebird hood that had the "power bulge" on both sides of the hood. I would call it a "double power bulge" hood.

I thought about that too - I'd have to see a photoshop of it to decide if it would look cool or just run the awesomeness of the original power bulge hood...

Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
Only hoods I know of.....
Double Power Bulge (1 wide bulge)
Suncoast RA1
Hawks & others RA1
Hawks & others RA2
ISMA
Cow Induction 1", 2" & 3"
And I think that is it, IIRC, for aftermarket 'glass hoods for 3rd gen 'birds.
Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
I joined late, but the Jongbloed hood looks the best and I think would sell. IMO all the hoods now like everyone else says do not fit the body lines of a firebird at all. Looks good on camaro's, but not on firebirds. Ill draw up a photoshop to show you what I think looks good.

The resin and glass mat just arrived; we're waiting on the gelcoats and hopefully we can get a hood here soon!! Still trying to obtain either (a) a straight hood we can bodywork or (b) someone who would be willing to give us their factory hood in exchange for the first hood out of the mold.

Dante93GTZ asked asked about my idea on a 91/92 'bird.
I think it looks pretty good. Not sure about the ridge, although I do like the center ridge on 82-90 'birds.

I just photochopped my car...traced around half the hood, copied it, pasted it, and just dragged the edge of the hood to the other side, making it exactly the other half of my hood. I think it looks cool...and different than the IMSA hood. The IMSA hood looks to be less defined. Anyways, here it is:

That would almost be an IMSA hood, just not quite as good. Those double scoop lines don't match up real good with the creases in the hood.

I actually REALLY like this chop! I also like something like what I chopped, but with the flow of the scoop following the other lines on the hood. A wide cowl hood would be sweet, but round the edges and have it flow into the hood and not like the usual cowls that stick straight out of the hood and come at a sharp angle. Needs to have the contours somewhat like the power bulge hood.

yes, you are...there are none made for firebirds like that one....and thats my favorite car ever made...1969 Hurst Olds 455 H.O. i love that car, but i cant afford it (maybe 70k) and I wouldnt mind having that hood on my car, but i think it would look weird because our hoods go down that one is straight horizontal not like our contoured hoods. but it is a great idea...PHOTOSHOP ANYONE?

Re: Need your input, FIREBIRD owners, What kind of hood do you want made for the 'bir
yes, you are...there are none made for firebirds like that one....and thats my favorite car ever made...1969 Hurst Olds 455 H.O. i love that car, but i cant afford it (maybe 70k) and I wouldnt mind having that hood on my car, but i think it would look weird because our hoods go down that one is straight horizontal not like our contoured hoods. but it is a great idea...PHOTOSHOP ANYONE?
