FED UP.

Okay I've spend the last 1+ yrs pouring money into my camaro restoring it. time for paint and i've painted it three times now in a makeshift booth in my parents shed and it looks horrid. Poor lighting, poor ventalation. I may have OCD. But I cant leave it looking bad. My dad threatened to burn down the shed if I didnt leave it alone, then he cleared it..and now he understands. Anyone know of books on how to build your own paint booth? It's too late to half *** it now... Any advice would help.

Thanks.

Re: FED UP.

you have any pictures of the finish? You'd be suprised what a piece of sandpaper does.........

I just panted my dad's 63 Impala SS in the dirty a** garage. It didn't look the best, but by the time I sanded and buffed it...it looked like an $8000.00 paint job.....

Re: FED UP.

that car looks great btw. i tried just now to get some pics, but none show the texture. it's classic orange peel, dirt specs in the paint, & some dry spots.

i wet sanded the last coat of clear i put on. and then my dad sprayed this one. im tempted to wet sand it again. but idk & reclearing just creates more texture. so i'd like to buff if i do wet sand.. could i dry sand it w/ 1000 and buff it out with polish? can you do that? (things i should know). i dont know a lot about buffing, but i do know i dont want to burn through.

theres one wet sanded coat of clear & then one more which was sprayed pretty wet in most places.

i just dont want another 3rd gen with rough paint. i put a tricoat on my 91 z28 and the clear was sprayed dry. i might have fixed it by now, but this car has always been my main priority.

since restoring it ..a trees fell on it and rabbits ate the wiring in it and two other third gens on the property. i wish i had just stayed interested in barbies...

thanks for your help. any more suggestions would be great.

Re: FED UP.

Probably be better if you sanded between each coat of paint...

Re: FED UP.

that would be pointless. it's just the spray technique or the gun might not be clean enough.

You could apply the paint with a roller and have it come out like a $4K paint job... If you were to sand the paint between coats. I've been there. I've done 2 crap paint jobs on my car that would have looked 1000X better had I sanded the paint between coats, like I'm doing now. Or, if you'd prefer, wet sand the paint after the final base coat with 1000 grit and then 2000 grit, and 2000 grit between the clear coats. That will take care of the crud in the paint, level it out and get rid of the orange peel, and get everything nice and smooth for the clear and final stages.

Re: FED UP.

You could probably get good results in one of those portable garages as long as you take the time and do it right.I am no pro but have become **** about painting and restoring my car.Temp-humidity,gun compressor, and a properly used paint sytem is key.just my 2 cents..You guys must be spraying a single stage if you are sanding between coats.??Most base clear have specific flash times between coats.wet sanding is your best bet..Good luck
