Looking for weatherstripping 86 Camaro
Hello,
Hoping someone can help me out. I'm looking for complete weatherstripping for my new project car
1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 V8 305 with T-Tops
I want to replace all the seals, t-tops, doors, the little rubber pieces on the top of the doors that the window slides between, trunk. Including the big rubber pieces on the ends of the t-tops that overhange the window.
My problem as show above, I don't know the names of these seals and don't know what to buy. I saw the 1AAuto posting on here for a kit that has everything (according to the red in the picture) except for the piece the window slides through, however their price is 450 dollars. Near as I can tell Hawks Third Gen, has the same GM kit for 260 dollars except it is backordered. I don't want to pay an extra 190 dollars for something unnecessarily.
I was looking on summitracing.com here:
http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...k%7cAsc&page=1
But again, I'm not sure which items I need to buy to get all the seals I need. I read someone elses post on here saying they got a complete set from summitracing for 200 shipped, I'm guessing prices could have changed but if I can get a kit for anywhere close to 200 rather than 450 that would be great.
If anyone can help me out I would be very grateful!
By the way you can see a picture of my camaro here: as you can see in the picture it is in desperate need of some seals, especially the on overhanging the window at the end of the t-top!

you might want to check out some of the the posts on this board.... everything I have seen says buy GM. It is way more expensive, but it seems most people who did not buy it wished they had. I just had my car painted, the body shop owner said to get GM if it was available. He does a lot of restorations and had experience with oem and aftermarket and there was no doubt in his mind that oem weatherstripping has not yet been matched by the aftermarket suppliers.

If GM isn't to expensive I will buy it, but if they are I'll buy aftermarket, I don't really care as long as it doesn't leak. I'm not even sure if mine leak now, I just got the car over the weekend and it has not rained yet, the main thing is how ugly the overhang looks and the missing piece from the driver side that the window roles up through. Right now if it were to rain water would get inside the door very easily and I imagine that could very easily lead to rust in the door and shorted out power window motors etc.

the best way to make sure you get the right stuff from GM is to call your local dealer with the last 8 digits of your VIN #. They will then pull up your EXACT car and make sure you get all the weatherstrip you need (they even have a parts diagram for you if you need it).
It will be way more expensive (mine was somewhere around $1200)-- but it will fit just like it did from the factory. I cannot say for sure because I did not use aftermarket stuff, but from what I have read the aftermarket stuff does not go back in very easy and doest not fit as well as the original stuff. Check around though, maybe you will find out something different.

I got my t-top weatherstriping from classic industries, its oem and i havent had any problems with it at all. And they should have everything else that your looking for. Just giving out a suggestion, good luck.

Are these the correct parts to replace the ugly looking pieces that overhang the window at the end of the t-tops?

And is this the piece that the window rolls up between on the outside?
