Re: Weatherstripping

Hey man, that is actually a VERY common leak in our cars and unfortunately it IS coming from the t-tops. The water sneaks in by the center of the t-bar and travels to the back of the center of the roof rails. The water actually comes out through the little holes by the screws for the t-bar. This is due to a flaw in the adhesive pattern used by GM. There are a few ways of combating this. One is to fully replace the weatherstripping and use a modified method of applying the adhesive(that's what I did), the other is to fill the gaps in the front and rear of the t-bar with silicone or weatherstrip adhesive. That really is the only shortcut that I am aware of. Obviously reinstalling the weatherstripping is the best method, but that is not always possible due to time or money constraints. Do a search of the forum on this topic, I know there is actually a wealth of information about this here. I recall a few threads where pictures were included to help identify the exact place to put the silicone if that is the way you choose to remedy the situation. Good luck and let me know about that headliner retainer.

I have the same problem. I just thought it was from the the top of the rear hatch. My weatherstrip is 20 years old and needs to be replace soon anyways. Does anyone sell the metal trim piece that goes around the rear hatch?

Something I found on mine was the hatch was leaking between the hatch and glass. Drop you hatch trim panel then check for leaks. Mine would run to the ends of the trim panel and looked just like it was leaking at the hatch seal.

Edit Oops just read where you said it was leaking in the seats. Yep t-top leak. Lots of sealer. Good luck

Re: Weatherstripping

I just installed a complete weather stripping kit I bought from 1A,Doors,Hatch,T Top,etc.
and my main leak I found was under the glass hold down, the piece of metal that's in the middle were you put the glass in,well their are couple of seal stripes under that and they need to be replaced,be careful there's a couple of hidden screws under the rubber.
It's been 2 wks.without a leak so far.and it rained pretty good the night I installed them.

Re: Weatherstripping

sorry for the late arrival (took a couple days to visit the family), but both manta and white gold touched on what i would have recommended. Water has a way of being sneaky in how it gets into our cars - trim pieces have a way of hiding things. On the t-tops, it is super important to get all the old sealant up and check for rust. The roofs have a ton of cracks and crevices that water sits in and eats away over time. I fear what I'm gonna find on my own when i go to tackle the seals on it next year....
