aftermarket glass hood, used, strut bracket holes on side??
I just got an aftermarket hood, and it appears to have the bolt holes for the brackets on the shocks, on the side instead of the bottom...also it has a bit of damage and wear on them, as well as at the latch release spot, 4 holes drilled in it, and a small crack near the front on the side, need some tips on how best to patch this baby up, and what I can do to bolt it up, or if I should just leave that crap as is, patch the crack, fill the drilled holes and get some hood pins? Not sure which would be easier...

the bolts for the hood hinges are on the side. thats where they are supposed to be.
as for repair, are the nut plates loose or damaged? they are in inserts int eh glass the bolts go into. If htey are ok, you are in good shape, patching holes in glass is not too hard.
You really should consider keeping at least 2 hood pins in the front, since fiberglass hoods can delaminate randomly and without warning.

Re: aftermarket glass hood, used, strut bracket holes on side??
I honestly couldn't remember if that was the normal spot for the bolt holes, and couldn't check cause my car is at the shop atm, they looked useable, but like a loose thread or two of glass are coming out in that area, I will have to look again to double check the condition of them, though I might want to reinforce them a bit if possible...and yeah that did occur to me about the front, though I am not really sure how to go about that, any suggestions? The hood is not only aftermarket but was also modified (probably by the original owner)...its in a tad rough shape, would like to restore it and make it last... also I need to strip the paint, whats the best way to do that without digging into the glass? the paint on it is cracked and bubbled in places.
Never seen one like it, its like a daytona, but instead of the wide louvers, it looks like the early year z28 induction hoods, with a recess and a fake induction flap, but it also has a recessed triangle near each front corner. Can't wait to put this thing on my car...but I need to fix the crack at least, and patch up the latch area or pin it down up there..
And when you say nut plates what do you mean? Because when I look at the bolt holes its just fiberglass, and I think there is supposed to be something more in there...just doesn't look very strong...
Also the hood is a bit heavy, I was wondering if I did full pin on if I could maybe eliminate some of the support structure on the underside or if that would make it too flimsy and easily deformed..

there are supposed to be threaded steel inserts where the bolts go. just threading into fiberglass would not be strong enough

the inserts are installed during the manufacturing process and are molding intot he hood, its not something you can just buy and replace. If the mounting points are damaged, you will have to do some fabrication work, make new plates of somekind, cut that area of the hood open, epoxy/bond them in somehow, and patch the holes ect.
any pics of the mount areas? are they damaged, or the holes just full or crap?

i have that same hood for full pin on holes already drilled and cover washers on.. only mine didnt have the lil triangles on each side on the front of the hood.. im looking to get a regular 2in cowl hood.. if u would rather have an undamaged hood all mine needs is a good sanding and paint..

I paid $60 for the one I have, and I like the triangles on it, plus you live in a different state. Thanks though.
