question about rear wheel well and frt tower rust.
well i had some question on some rusted areas on a car i was looking at, i had found an 89 iroc-z the other day that a guy is looking to sell its looks good from far but far from good, major areas that have me consered are both rear wheel wells are rusted out at the very top but the sides goin down the wells are perfectly fine, also i had found the pass frt strut tower around the strut mount its rusted through but just on the strut tower cap i guess u could call it the rest of the strut tower is good and soilded, the rest of the car looked good it needs a pass rear quater panle and some patch work on the pass floor. the rest of the under side of the car is pretty soild. guy wants 500 bucks for the whole car runs and drives nice for a 305 tbi. now i do have an 82 z28 camaro the im parting out due to some bad rust around the window frame and other bad rust, my parts camaro has a good rear quater panle i could use and both my rear wheel wells are good to on my parts car along with the strut tower caps.
now my queation:
Rear wheel wells:
should i cut out my rear wells out of the parts car and place in the iroc or should i make mini tubs for the iroc?
frt strut caps:
can i get away from drilling out the spot welds on the strut caps and just replace them and weld them in or would i need to replace the how tower?
i know its a structor part of the car.
thanks for the help.

Can you post some pics so that we can access the damage? This helps a lot as far as evaluating rot in hidden areas.

without seeing the condition of the towers it is difficult to asses. Generally, rust on the towers are a no-no and need immediate attention. You have a lot of work ahead of you if you are to replace the wells with the towers. It is doable but a lot of work.
Good luck.
Good luck.

well im goin to pass on this car guy changed his mind on the price and now wants 1500 no less so im goin to pass on this car after goin over the wheel wells and strut tower it looks like more work than i wanna do so this car is a no go for me.

with that damage he is insane. I just picked up a 89 RS TBI with no strut damage for 800. I just need to have the floors done. The interior and exterior are excellent on this car. Keep looking, Im sure you will find a deal.

Re: question about rear wheel well and frt tower rust.
i know this guys had the car for 6 years and paid alot when he bought it and the reason why it rusted so bad he parks it in a field every winter which is my guess why it got so bad he hadnt driven it last summer so it sat for a year, so after that i was said screw it i would of probley parted the car out and kept the trans mission and gfx, well the guy i was talkin to before i looked at this car called me up and asked if i still wanted his car which is a rust free 83 z28 but no more and transmisson for 400 bucks , i have looked at it before so i may ust grab this one and be done with it. i need a project and since my 82 z28 went up in flames i wasnt happy.
