Headlight Conversion

Okay everyone I apologize if what I'm looking for is on the site somewhere, but I've searched and read a bunch of stuff and nothing I've seen quite answers it for me.

I have a '86 IROC that I want to update the headlights on. I want the glass lenses and all 4 lights to be on when using high beam. I also want the kit I buy to be american or german made. I've seen the hella headlights and those are what I'm leaning towards. What else do I need exactly to get this done? I want the HID system, not projectors. Thank you.

Re: Headlight Conversion

I bought this set and finally put it on today. I definitely like the way they look, but I'm not too sure if I like the light they put out. Maybe I need to adjust them up a little. I didn't hook up the little blue light (city light) that goes just below the bulb. The light is whiter but you can see a couple of circles on the ground where it hits. Maybe the blue light would take care of this, I don't know. Also, the lights are made of glass, but they don't have the metal backs like I believe someone said. Anyone know how good the sylvania silverstars are?

Re: Headlight Conversion

Sorry you wasted your $ on those. Multiple people have tried those & thrown them away, me included.

I put in Silverstars afterwards & they are great lights, for direct drop-in lights.

As for all 4 headlights on at the same time..... I know it is possible, since I had that on my 1st 3rd gen (a 92 RS) but a friend did the wiring mod & I dunno how he did it. That was back in like 1996.

I'll shoot my electronics buddy a message & see if he knows, or wants to look & see how to do it.

Do you remember where you got yours from? Also, do all 4 headlights work or just the outer two? Thank you.

Man I was reading those that installed them and they were pleased, so I bought them. Did you have a 4 headlight working open headlight system you were pleased with? Which system was it?

This was way back before HIDs even existed.

I have a similar part on my 98 Chevy truck, when you hit the brights all four headlights light up! Hope this helps!

Re: Headlight Conversion

The factory configuration uses all 4 headlights when the high beams are on.

Ya that's what I was thinking, and just going to say the same.

It is. All 4 lights should be on, stock from the factory.

I got confused on the wiring mod I mentioned above, when my buddy installed the wig wag for my headlights, when I was a Volunteer Fire Fighter.

2 Low, 4 High is normal.

Re: Headlight Conversion

To everyone that has posted here thank you. A stock third gen headlight system does use all 4 headlights when on the high beam setting. What i was trying to ask for in my original post was for a HID (true Xenon) system that uses all four headlights when on the high beam setting. Everything I've seen so far uses a bulb that had the low/high beam filaments in it. Maybe I'm confused about the HID system, but what I've seen only uses the outer two bulbs for high and low settings. The inner two are never used. Again, maybe this is my misunderstanding. Does anyone know where I can get a quality four headlight system that utilizes the true HID/Xenon bulbs? Sorry for any confusion.
