Antenna removal

How do I just take off the antenna part of the antenna so that I can put my car cover all the way on my car?

Re: Antenna removal

But is there a way to do it without removing the fender I just want to take the visible part off so that I can put the cover all the way on.

Yeah, it just unscrews from it's base. But I was always afraid I'd damage my antenna having it off the car so I cut a small hole in my car cover for the antenna to stick through.

Were you afraid of water getting in or something? Mine is parked outside so that's why I was wondering. I would rather not put in a hole and have a bunch of water get trapped under and when I pull it up to have a bunch of paint come of with it.

The base will still be on the fender, You just unscrew the whip part of it.There is a picture in my picture album that kinda shows it.

No, I store mine inside. I was just afraid my antenna would get damaged off of the car.

Seriously? Becuase I just took mine off and it would only come ff if the whole entire thing came with it. Is that "bad"?

Re: Antenna removal

Removed entire stock antenna and had it shaved replacing with a Metra Amplified Antenna mounted above the rear view mirror.Plugs into the stock wiring with adapter unit. Works great. Heres a link = http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0201&ppt=C0107

Re: Antenna removal

hi not sure where your at, but i was having the same problem, i had a power antena that didnt work so i just took it out, i didn't have to take fender off, just went in through the tire well and exposed the old power antena and pulled it out, its a bugger to do because u have to twist and have some patience but will come out, then i went to canatian tire and bought one there that can be pulled out to use and then pushed backed in to put cover over car.

Well maybe yours is different because mine just unscrews. Mine has been off the car since I got it.

Mark.

Re: Antenna removal

I thought I replied to this last night, but I don't see it. Just wrap electrical tape around the bottom of the mast and use a wrench to unscrew it. End of story. The tape will protect the finish on the antenna.

Is it factory mast, power? Non power mast is diameter of coat hanger wire. It should unscrew from top of base. Top of base is also threaded on same as mast, it may have stuck to mast. If this is the case separate the two before loosening it too far. It will bind up. If it's a factory power antenna, check it out and get it fixed. They're nice when they work. Post a pic of which antenna you have. Factory only had two as far as I remember.

Re: Antenna removal

Here is the story, so since I last took my antenna off (entire thing came out and its the factory non power antenna I can post pics if needed) I am now at the point of where I want to put it back on because at the moment I have a plastic bag shoved in there to keep water from getting in and it looks terrible. I guess I'm asking what are some ways you guys have reinstalled your antennas without removing the fender? I tried once through the wheel well but now the cord is acting like its not long enough and wont reattatch. Has anyone bypassed this problem before?
