Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
Guess I'll have to see it to understand it - since the front set of effects on a 1991/1992 is part of the chin spoiler, which is one solid wrap around piece, and thus there is no left or right side. Could they mean the rear set which are under each door?

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
HOLY *&^%ING @#$*! IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE MADE THESE! Been looking for them since 2005. Every single 1991-92 I've seen in the yard either had these missing or torn, and the previous owner of my 1991 tore mine up as well.
camaronewbie: rob2000gt is referring to the front ground efx on a 91-92 Firebird W68/Trans Am/GTA, not a 91-92 Camaro. The 1991-92 Firebird W68/Trans Am/GTA front ground efx were a three piece design, where the side pieces screw in and adhere to the front fenders, and then flow into the lines on the front bumper.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I should have specified it was for the pontiacs. I figured every one with 91 or 92 would like to hear about this. mine have been broke since I bought the car someone rivited mine where they were supposed to be adhered to the fender. I had the car repainted, but went to a car show that was in a cow pasture and completly broke the driver side off. I know most people need these pieces, and will be happy to hear you can now buy new ones
Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I'm glad I don't have a 91-92 firebird with the ground effects that is insane pricewise if I looked on Craigslist I could find an entire 91-92 Camaro ground effects set for that price.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I am interested to see them but I am worried about them being abs plastic they might not be very flexible. I should be able to place an order for both sides very soon. Just so people know people are selling cracked used ones on ebay for $130 - $200 so the price for the new ones are not that bad.
Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I understand that but still that's nuts for the smallest part of the ground effects package. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they're making them but to charge $260 for the smallest section of the ground effects package and to have people being so excited about it that sucks. I'm sorry I'm not trying to knock Hawks but this appears to me to be kind of a monopoly because many people are stuck with no other option. I have no experience with forming abs plastic but all my kids toys are abs plastic and none of them came close to that price. I understand that the people who run Hawks have mouths to feed too, but if you ask me that is ridiculous you can't tell me they have even close to half that much money into them. Sorry for my rant guys.

hard to compare a toy to this, you will sell millions of toys a year, but not nearly that many 91-92 bird front gfx sets. tooling is expensive.
besides, ever try to find a new or perfect condition old piece? you can blow 500 bux for a perfect set easily. 150 bux for a single good piece is common too. so 150 for a new piece (provided it fits) is a deal im my book
not trying to start a argument here, it just seems people here on 3rd gen always want everything for cheap and dont have any idea what it takes to produce a product, especially for a niche market like this, a year and a half production run.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I bet even though the price is high nearly everyone that needs them to finish their restore or they need it for their near perfect car they will be more that happy to pay this price because of how much time and effort they have spent on finding these. I feel its a fair price for something so hard to get. They are the only aftermarket company that was willing to reproduce these Compairing these to toys is like compairing a Micky Mantle baseball card to a piece of card board.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
I got them today and dropped them off for paint. for the most part they look very good but I dont like the part where the 2 bolts mount behind the fender that piece is epoxyed on and the 2 screw holes that face the tire are not marked so marking and drilling will be required by you. They do come with all the hardware for installing.

you didnt mock them up before paint?
what do you mean wider? longer? or they stick out more than the stock ones side to side?

They petrude into the tirewell a half inch past the end of the fender. It is the part that wraps around into the tirewell. other than that it fits perfect.

No I didnt mock them I got them and 20 min later had them at the paint shop. I had to re align my nose (my coworker backed into the front of my car right after i had it painted) so they would not have mounted right during mock up. I wish I could figure out how to get pics on here I would post them.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
hmmm that looks weird. Is that the part thats epoxied on? Unless something was assembled wrong, it seems unlikely that a issue like that would have been missed during design and build, unless this is a flawed prototype piece? Just thinking out loud here. Interested to see what hawks has to say.

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
Its not epoxyed its double side adhesive. I took a close up pic of where the bumper, fender, ground effects meet. if I moved it to be flush in the tirewell then I would have a gap between the nose and the fender. Take a second look at the pics all the bolt lined up perfectly. It would be nice to know if I did assemble wrong

Re: 91-92 front fender ground effects
Oh jeez I didn't read through the whole thread before I posted... that fitment with the ground effect sticking into the wheel well is definitely an issue. Kinda spoils the look, you'd expect it to be perfect for $270 a pair. I hope Hawks is addressing this.

Who would have thought to measure? I would have figured they installed/test fitted them on a car before selling and sending them out. Perhaps they did and somehow got a good pair. I am glad they are making these pieces and $270 for a set is a deal! Those of you who say they are overpriced have no idea what you're talking about. Broken/busted up originals go for $150per side. Hopefully they resolve this issue soon. I need a set.

Hawks Third Gen contacted me today, they said the pieces have been revised as of 3/17/2011. They measured the piece and the one I got was exactly 1/4 in too long, so from now on they will fit perfectly like factory originals. Thank you Hawks for taking care of the issue and making these parts.

They reimbursed me $50 they said they would have sent me the revised, but I am not worried about them not being right. I already had them painted If my car was a different color then I would have replaced them. Its better than having them broke or missing.
