Metal gauge

I am getting to do some rust repair. I got my Lincoln wire flux welder and a tig but I am looking into metal shears to shape patches. I was wondering what gauge metal people use I want to make sure my shear can handle it.

Re: Metal gauge

and a quick tip, any smaller patches, use your tig to tac a piece of filler wire to the patch to use as a "handle" to hold the patch in place long enough to tac it. works great.
