Please help me with my 92 firebird
Please help me with my 92 firebird
Okay so i just got my first car, a 1992 formula firebird, and the guy i bought it from previously redid the front end to a camaro front end, so its a firebird with a camaro front end.
I want to restore it to its full potential and want it to look really good. I also want to be all bird ya know so i want to re-redo the front end so its a true 92 firebird. Are there any suggestions you could give me? or maybe some websites on where to get inexpensive parts or anything?
Ill post pictures soon since those are probably a huge help. Im not sure if he altered anything or just swapped the bumpers and such

92 firebird front end, inexpensive? HA! thats probably why he changed it in the first place, it was broken and parts were impossible to find.
provided teh car has/had the ground effects package, the front end parts are very hard to find, and can be quite expensive. A good GFX nose can run a few hundred for just the cover.
you can get re-pop gfx pieces from Hawks, they are new, literally within the last month, so that saves you the search for a set of unbroken originals, which is impossible...
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/, maybe the other parts too.
Not sure how much of a swap the old previous owner did, but the fenders and hood are obviously different, and the steel bumper and impact absorber is different from camaros and firebird, so you have to source all those parts too, among other parts
you can use ebay, the classified here, 3rdgen ranch, hawks, and others for the parts.

dn't forget about head light swap birds had the flip ups not the reg light like our camaros so you need headlight assemblies with god motors and most likely the brackets to go with it

Where are you? I have many of the pieces for your 92 formula (bumper without ground effects, parking/turn singals in bumper, headlight brackets, head light doors) everything but fenders and hood, unless you want a flat hood and your local...i got that too.

Does no one ever check out their local boards? If you scroll down there is a little box called "Forum jump" click on that and then scroll down to the "southwest regional" board. Post it there. It's mostly AZ members on that board.

Re: Please help me with my 92 firebird
I've got front formula (no ground effects) front bumper with the upper bumper support, I have two headlight brackets, with two 91/92 headlight doors, a passenger side headlight bezel (you will need to find the innards of a 91/92 headlight to swap over for the bezel to work...this will get you going with firebird front end headlights though), I have a firebird headlight harness, it's from an '87 so you may need to check some of the wiring but it's plug and play, and I have the marker/turn signals for the bumper with wiring pigtails, again you just need to splice those into the firebird harness listed above and you're good to go. After that you'll need :
headlight module to move the headlights up and down
working headlight motors
91/92 firebird front crash bumper with plastic framing
fenders
formula hood
and I may be missing some little things, but I have most of the big things. Really sucks that he did the camaro swap and threw out all the firebird stuff, reguardless of if it was broken, wiring harnesses and such would be helpful to you.
Shipping is I believe just under $100 if I can fit all the little stuff in with the bumper, so if you can get it local that would be ideal, but if not, I have it.

Oh I agree it won't be cheap, and all the stuff I mentioned I'd be grouping together in the same package, so shipping shouldn't be too deadly. That and it would get you 90% of your stuff. All's good though, it'll be an adventure getting it all together lol.
