It's definitely worth fixing, man. My car needs more work than that... Hell, if you're willing to pay cost + shipping I'll even look in the scrapyard down the road and see if they've got the parts you need. They seem to have quite a few f-bodies come through, and it gives me an excuse to go to the scrap yard LOL

there are a few ways, but the most common is overtightening lug nuts.

You can see the exhaust pipe is OK so the cowl should have little or no damage. I would replace the rotor, spindle, lower control arm and steering links ect.

Good to hear its getting saved from the crusher that is a pretty sweet ride and with a little work it will be back on the road in no time My friends were all on my case on fixing my car because it's just a little v6 but I'm very attached to my car because I've been around it since I was a baby. The only other owner was my mom.

There's Nothing wrong with a 6 cylinder Camaro. It looks the same as the V8's, gets better mileage and will go farther on a tank of gas, is just as much fun to drive, handles just as well, still hugs the corners at high speed, and you even happen to know your car's whole history, as well as keeping the car in the family.

I own a 92 Green Grey RS with a 3.1L V6 in it. While I've never driven it, ( I didn't get a title for it when I brought it in NH, and the state of Massachusetts won't let me get one for it ), but the car's complete, everything works, but I just can't get it registered for the road. Still, it's a great little car, and I don't Care that it's a V6, it's Still a Camaro, and it may still live again, ( at least part of it ). My plans for it now are to either sell it to someone who Can use it, ( RI., ME., and NH. don't need a title for a car 15 years old or older ), or to find a nice third gen rolling chassis and swap everything out of it into the new body, ( and I already have a chance to pick up one for $300.00 as we speak ).

I also own a 87 White Iroc-Z that I just brought for $800.00 that I Will be putting on the road possibly as soon as nexrt month. It's a 305 TPI, that just needs the drivers side floor patched, and then I'm good to go.

By all means Skyset, fix your car man. You'll be glad that you did, and you'll have one of the coolest looking best handling cars out there. Don't let it die, revive it.

WAIT!!! i have repaired way worse in my driveway,really it looks worse than it is and besides body shops are over rated.if you take a deep breath you CAN affordably repair this rare car.as others will no doubt say parts are relatively inexpensive dont give up fix it up!!!

Just put new studs and lug nuts on it so you can put the wheel back on it and drive it ! Then fix the rest when you can. If your going to scrap it for that then you dont deserve to have a car like that anyway ! Its an IROC not a plain jane camaro.

Doesn't surprise me, I got charged $3000 for similiar damage to my left fender, cost an assload cuz apparently they had to remove the whole front clip which is apparently a pita. Went ahead and had a new GM bumper cover thrown on there, and the other fender painted aswell as the bottom valence got some work. $3000 later but at least it's pretty again.

Body shops SUCK. Never ever EVER let your thirdgen get wrecked.

Hey uh question...I just dropped off the fender at the bodyshop to be painted black...question though. How hard is it to install the fender? Is it something I can do with only basic mechanic knowledge?

(I decided not to have the shop install it as they wanted another hour labor for that...)

If you know how a wrench works you'll be fine.
Hardest part will be making sure the gaps line up nicely but that's not bad.

Glad to hear your going to fix it! Have a buddy come and help you take the hood off then it's just a few bolts after that, No problem for the average guy to change a fender on one of these cars.

I'm glad you guys talked me into saving it. Was a fairly cheap fix...and I'm really glad it's been saved. There's still a few MINOR things that will need to be done...(like a little paint on the bottom right side of the door close to the fender, and some touch up paint to the gfx, but overall, I'm happy with how it looks.

looks good man! glad to see u saved it doing things yourself saves a s**t load of money. i bet you didnt pay anywhere near tha $1900 that shop was trying to charge you

I bought the fender from someone locally who happened to see this thread, and offered me a great price on an awesome NOS fender that came off his 85 camaro(user is 6SIX6). Thing had not a single spot of rust or even a slight dent...was perfect...for $50 (only thing is it was red).

Then I went to a local body shop that I've heard fairly good things about, and spoke with their manager. He said he would paint it for $200 and put it on. Sounded good to me. When I went to pick up the car though, I saw he had straightened out the door completely (pictures didn't show it, but the bottom right side of the pasenger door was bent it...it didn't even open!), and touched it up with a little paint, free of charge. I honestly think he did that because he felt a little sorry for me being a broke college student.

So all together, cost me $250 LOL (edit: actually close to $300 cause I also needed a new wheel hub/studs). But still, way of from the $1900 quote rofl


Really excited to have the car back. Just got back from an hour or so cruise with my friend in his 89 mustang GT (no haters!)

Glad to see you saved it.

The initial quote was quite discouraging, bu that´s often how things go. Somethig happens, your initial response is to get the car to a shop and ask them to "fix it" and they charge for everything they can (which makes sense since they make a living that way, no offense to the original bodyshop either).

One advise I might give you however, and someone already mentioned your car tried to tell you the same is to have a look at the wheel hubs and studs on the remaining 3 wheels as well.

For a $300 fix your car looks good again. Might even look better then mine at the moment.

So all together, cost me $250 LOL (edit: actually close to $300 cause I also needed a new wheel hub/studs). But still, way of from the $1900 quote rofl


Really excited to have the car back. Just got back from an hour or so cruise with my friend in his 89 mustang GT (no haters!)

Just as an aside, if a fender came off the car and was painted, it's no longer NOS. That term should only be used for parts brand new, factory built parts that have never been used or installed

I was gonna say, cuz after reading the first post I'm saying to myself, this member actually thinks "that" is serious damage lol? Glad you got it fixed, came out very good. You should of had them also touch up the chin spoiler with the same paint though, and make it an even $300.00 for the body work....

You're welcome bro. I'm So glad that you decided to just fix it instead of letting it die. Great job, and something that you can be proud of.

So, you ended up saving $1,650.00 over the original quote eh? Great. It couldn't be no better. It didn't take long, you got to learn something about your car, you did some of the repair work yourself, it looks good again, and you're back in the saddle again.

My brother used to say, " Wheels are better than heels ", and you're riding again in style for short money.

Good deal, glad you're alright again now. Thanks to all your friends here at TGO, and so glad you listened to reason and got it fixed for just a little money and time.

Someone I know recommended I go to 875 central parkway and talk to the manager. His name is Victor, tell him you know me (my name), the guy with the black IROC and I'm sure he can hook you up. I'm sure they overcharge insurance companies, the same as any other body shop does, but I hear when it's a repair that you're paying out of the pocket, they try and help you out a bit price-wise.

i bout my 92 bird with 2 trashed fenders and a cracked bumper cover. other than that the thing was cherry!! no rust and only 92k miles. 2 used fenders and som work on the nose and my car is just like new. in process right now of fixing it. just goes to show you that you shouldnt get discouraged over fixing bolt on body panels. super easy to do and well worth then investment. plus it makes you feel better knowing you did it yourself!!

It will be home next weekend as I got all my hoist work out of the way at my shop and its time to get the wiring done and the interior back in the car. For sure man we will meet up I still got your number here and Ill give you a call for sure.

Good to see you found a good place I just dont want anyone to do the cowl on my car is all but it will get done soon as I get the car down here for sure.
