Black Paint

Hey guys, getting the IROC this evening and starting to get things ready for it. It is black and is going to need a new paint job. Wondering if the GM paint code is the deepest, wettest, slickest looking black out there or if there is another paint that is better? Also, I've seen where people are posting on other forums in other places where there are blacks that do a better job of hiding dirt. Any truth to this?

Thanks in advance

Re: Black Paint

Metalic blacks hide dirt a tiny bit better but they're not as deep looking. Any black paint looks dirty fast. I would stick with the GM black. It looks really good clean.

Re: Black Paint

Dupont makes a factory pack part number 9900K ( not to be confused with the old 99K ) that makes Gm 8555 black look like Grey!

How much more expensive is that paint compared to the GM paint and if its blacker.... will it show dirt more prevalent?

How much more expensive is the dupont paint versus the GM black and if its a deeper paint will it show dirt easier? Thanks for the info!

Re: Black Paint

Dupont DBU 9700 will give you the that "wet" "deep" look with proper clear coat job. As for clears? I recommend SPI universal clear. Best stuff I have ever used. Not to mention that god forbid you mess up and run it, SPI Universal cuts and buffs the easiest. They use it for some Year One cars as well. Gallon of Universal and Hardener costs about $100 bucks or so too, so it's no bank breaker.
