Also, not too familiar with engines in general yet, but is this a 305ci V6 engine? The seller said it was a 5.7L V8 and that it was a Z28, even though the bumper says otherwise.

count the tubes coming out of the heads; if there are 3 on each side its a v6. if there are 4 on each side. its a v8. if its the v8 it will either be the 5.0L (305ci) or the 5.7L (350ci). also, i cant remember where it is on the block, but there is a stamp in the block that should say the size.

That's a 305 throttle body injected V8. Poor car. Looks beat. Salvagable, though.

 

thought that I was looking at my car's twin. I bought mine for 600 hundred needed a tranny and some minor engine work but found out the motor was in very good shape and I'm havin a blast

It could be a 350 IF someone swapped out the engine, but it probably wasn't swapped out, Just assume it is still the original 305.

LOL! I know what an OP is when it comes to the original poster. I've been hanging around forums for years. "What is OP?" is just a joke that the little sissified 4chan kids use on anonymous chat sites.

 

The block "size" (ie 5.0 or 5.7) is on the rear drivers side of the engine block lateral to the distributor. You'll have to lay over your engine or over the front left of the car with a flashlight to see back there and there's almost always lots-o-grime. A little carb cleaner or engine degreaser and a rag will make the digits more visible. It'll read something like GM 5.0 if it's a 305 or GM 5.7 if it's a 350. There will also be a series of other digits which just equate to GM V8 casting numbers (ie 283ci-400ci) and a clock type symbol displaying the production date in a cryptic manner.

 

i may be wrong but if its tbi it is usually a 305 you can tell this because it has the air filter casing ontop of the carb for the future if you wondering how many cilindars you can usually count spark plugs or tubes comming off the headers

 

Based on the pictures it's a bone stock 305 TBI. 350's weren't TBI'ed, rather they all were tpi's.

 

In the F-bodies, trucks got 350 TBIs I believe. Lol.

It looks like a 305 TBI V8, not a Z28, most likely an RS model. That crease on the left is an easy repair. Looks like a real good deal. To see what you have you can check the VIN #'s & itll tell you what you have. Im not sure if you have any RPO Codes, check under the center console lid or the back storage comparment in the drivers rear.Their should be a big sticker witj letters & #'s. That is your RPO code & will tell you what your car has & what options are on her.

 

Their are 305 TPI cars also.....

As I said, it appears to be the bone strock 305 that came in it...

 

Im happy with my 305, they could have gien me a 262CI (4.3L) motor like gm has done in the past (and future LT1 motors)

I will still tweak the 305 though...
