92 firebird hatch key not working

My power hatch release works just fine, but when I turn the key, it will not pop the lock. Could it be that the cable needs to be tightened? If so, can anybody help me figure this out?

many thanks

Re: 92 firebird hatch key not working

"Well, you're right it is cable operated, so perhaps the cable is worn or loose or the key is not turning all the way to release it. About the only way to figure it out would be to take off the rear panel and watch it in action"

I did take off the panel, it looks like the key isn't turning the release far enough. Any way to fix it without replacing the cable?

Never actually done that, sorry, don't know. Any way to take up slack? Does pulling on the cable get it to open? Just spit ballin here...

Re: 92 firebird hatch key not working

yeah when the key turns, the cable tightens... and turns the release mechanism. It's just not turning far enough (probably like 3/4 of the way) -- so I'm assuming the cable comehow got loose.

Re: 92 firebird hatch key not working

Does anybody know how to remove the hatch cable from the back of the key lock?

Re: 92 firebird hatch key not working

So, I replaced the cable that runs from the key lock to the hatch mechanism. It didn't do a thing. Ugh.

So, does anyone know if the actual factory lock ever goes bad? Maybe the key is turning, but the interior of the lock isn't operating properly?
