Re: Weight issues

I'm no expert on the subject, but I found some of the heaviest and less obvious things you can remove are the reinforcements inside the door skins. Also I removed my front and rear bumpers. To properly support the covers I made some Aluminum tube supports for them. Mine had a fiberglass hood but I removed all the inside moldings and supports. Also I removed the whole A/C, and a friend of mine made me an Aluminum Trunk Lid (the original on weights Ton). If I had the resources I will definitely replace the rear window with Plexiglass or something too it is quite heavy.
You said you gutted the interior so there is not much else you can remove.
I've seen people drill some pieces on the body and frames but I personally don't have any experiences with that.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Re: Weight issues

I am guessing it is an iron 355? Does it have iron heads? Aluminum heads should save 70ish lbs Maybe a ls1?

Re: Weight issues

There is so much weight to skin off thirdgens its ridiculous!
i can think of more then 20 at the top of my head...

You also are going to have to add some weight tho if you want a solid car but that weight is worth it I.E sub frames, cage etc...

Re: Weight issues

Did you take out the heater blower and controls?

Do you still have speakers ect? Power windows mirrors? Passenger mirror?

You can literally eliminate hundreds of pounds from a third gen when done right.

Your Fuel Cell is in the passenger side area where the spare tire went??!?!? Last I checked thats one of the FIRST places to cave if it gets hit.

I wouldn't put fuel, or anything pressurized there at all in the off chance that you take a hit. Safest place for a fuel cell is the rear seat area if you aren't putting it in the stock tank location.
