Re: TRUNK NOT CLOSING!! NEED HELP

Is there play in the latch? It's normal for the plastic housings to break if they are slammed. They should just click shut and trip the latch sensor to pull it down.

Is the latch stuck down inside the panel?

If you're having issues you can take out the interior plastic screws and back panel to get access to it. Check to make sure the plastic housing where the 3 screws are not cracked and wobbly. There is a striker type switch on the topside if you put a screwdrive in there it should trip and pull it down. There should be a switch on the bottom that trips a black little peg to reverse the worm gear so when the key or remote release is used the worm gear will spin and bring the latch upwards.

There is also a power connector that can get dirty or sometimes has play and can cause the worm drive not to get power.

Sometimes mine gets stuck in the down position. I use my finger to trip the little toggle switch on the latch that brings the mechanism back up to the unlatched position.

Same thing happens with mine, and I do the same thing. If the motor is in the down position, it won't be able to grab and engage when you go to close it. stick your finger or a screw driver into the latch opening to bring the motor up. when it stops at the top, try closing the hatch again.

x3, doesn't happen much but when it does, just popping the finger down there will get the motor to pop back up to where it's supposed to be, then it will catch it no problem.

Also make sure your hatch struts aren't worn, that can kill the motor.

It could be numerous things being electrical and all. But it sounds like your hatch reversing switch is bad (dont take my word for it though, i cant see whats going on with it). Take a trip to the a local salvage yard and get one. A new one, if you can find one, will run you about 70 bucks.
