Hood exchange question

My son got a fiberglass hood from an '82 Z28 with the hood scoops. His '87 has the 2.8 V-6 with the air intake duct running over the top of the radiator to the air filters in front. This prevents the hood from closing because the inner fiberglass shell of the hood hits the air intake duct. Has anyone done this, do you have to notch the inner shell, will it retain its strength if the liner is notched?

Re: Hood exchange question

what about a different air intake, i would think that would be way better than cutting that hood, cutting it just sounds like a bad idea

Re: Hood exchange question

Nothing wrong with cutting the inner structure if you think about where & what your cutting & don't just hack away.

The inner structure of the later hoods is different to provide clearance for that TPI/V6 air inlet. Just need to mod yours for clearance, no big deal.

Re: Hood exchange question

Cutting some of the inner structure, towards the center of the hood, doesn´t really matter.

I would advise against cutting anything in a 24" radius of the hood latch and since it´s a Camaro all 4 corners of the hood.
