Making a firebird COMFORTABLE

Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment. The missus hates driving in the Trans AM. The first and obvious option is a new missus who appreciates the car, but I'm wondering if there's a way to make the car a bit more comfortable.

First thing is the creaks and noises, that I guess is just tightening everything down, and a bit of lithium grease here and there.

Probably some more comfortable seats, and maybe start sound deadening some of the panels, doors and floor, but is there any other tips and tricks anyone has to make the interior a bit more pleasant?

I moved my seats 4 inches back to make a little more leg room, and it feels much better then the stock position.

subframe connectors, fix door, dash and hatch rattles. If your car doesnt have the door wedges get them installed and get them from a 92 car. good luck and enjoy!
PS get a new girl or get her a 84 5speed ford escort without ac and then see how she likes your car.. lol

Just took a side grinder to the spot welds on the seat mounts on the floor pans and the removed them and bolted the seats directly to the car using some flat stock to disperse the forces on the metal. I just took the seat and set it in a spot tried it then adjusted and marked my holes. Not only did I gain 4 inches of legroom, but because I removed the seat braces i also lowered the seat 2 inches. Im 6'3" and this is the one mod I have always wanted to do, I love my firebirds and this mod increased the "fun" level a lot. I no longer look like Im Fred Flinstone looking over the windshield. Best part is that you can't tell at all that its been done.

Ya it makes one hell of a difference, it's much more fun to drive when you are comfortable.

Dynamat might help too. Or mix her a picture of her favorite cocktail befor each drive(assuming you're the one driving)

Re: Making a firebird COMFORTABLE

You mention that you need to tighten things to remove rattles.... Well, this might not help as I tightened things on a car years ago and created squeaks. I tightened the screws on the ttop center bar and found that the body flex created squeaks because the bar was now too tight. Once I loosened them up some, the squeaks went away. Don't overtighten things and be sure to torque what needs torquing.

The doors/windows are very often the culprits where noise is concerned. The following will provide some helpful tips:

Re: Making a firebird COMFORTABLE

my car didn't have one on the drivers side when I bought it, but I never thought of what would happen with my feet if I had them

you want to talk about big feet? I wear a size 18

Ive forgotten a few time why they were out and put them back, I quickly member why.

If im in shoes I dont have issues (granted im seated farther back) but I drove with my steel toed boots today and every time I pushed on the brake I was touching the underpanel with the tip of my boot. Scared me a couple times because I thought I was about to push the gas and brake at the same time.

This problem is also why the idea for the z28ster of mine.
Because im tall, you install the front seats in the back of a 3rd gen.
Then cut the floor and pull the dash/front end back until your comfy.

true no doors, no top, 2 seater fair weather roadster....
