Thoughts are that it would be even more stupid than Lambo doors.

they were cool back then, but you could never park it in a parking spot besides 2 other cars. You'll never be able to get out

actually the doors open on about 6" from the body. theres companies out there that have done the doors on suv's and other stuff. so it can be done.

Or you could just fix your hinges and pins instead of making your car look like a turkey.

I imagine getting it to work on frameless doors would be impossible by design...so you would have to make a frame for around the window. But there are companies that make gull-wing door kits.

Has anyone here seen the frame of a DeLorean? Instead of being shaped like a rectangle, it's shaped like an I

I wouldn't want to get hit on the side driving one of these...especially combined with the aluminum body...

Many threads on it, I say the same in all. Just need special glass cut like the hatch so it can be used as a hing or structial support. You then have the 1/4 windows to get air n ff. The main glass would fill most of stock location and extend all the way down into the door.

Though I would make it more euro style and cut 1/3 of the bottom of the door off and weld it into place, strengthen up the side and room the door needs to open. Weight also.

But it conflicts with my removeable hard top targa top desires.
Full stock metal section thats removable. not cheating with ttops.

Some old cars had frames similar to that. Also, "The DMC-12 features gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels are affixed."

I don't knock anybody's idea. I think it would look stupid, but many things i thought of doing would look stupid and thats why they were just a thought. I honestly feel that when people take a camaro and put 100 spoke gold rims and hydrolics on the car is ridiculous. Your taking away from the fact that its a camaro, An american built muscle car. So when people do things like suicide doors or lambo doors or now we are talking about doing delorean doors, just remember , you own a CAMARO, An American Muscle car. Stop ruining these beautiful Machines. Have fun with it, beef it up, keep it american and always keep it in mind that its a muscle car. You can't time travel, i dont care what kind of doors you have on it!!!!

Re: gullwing(delorean) doors on a third gen

Lots of problems there but it could be done. The doors would have to be shortened because the bottoms would stick out too far. That means building a very tall rocker panel you would have to step over to get in like a Gull wing Mercedes.
Super reinforcement to the roof and as mentioned frames for the glass.(which couldn't be rolled down all the way because the doors are shortened)

Maybe a different approach like a Kit car. Fiberglass doors with steel reinforcement and a frame that surrounds the entire door opening with hatch hinges at the top and struts to hold it up.

Or like a Delorean with integral door frames and bonded surfaces. Super strong but light doors with honeycomb carbon fiber structure and a small "toll" window you could barely get a Big Mac through at the drive through.

That would be cool...

Didn't Mr. DeLorean design muscle cars for GM? Granted, gull-wing doors were originally on Mercedes, but it's not EXACTLY the same as putting Lambo doors

He also had a hand in designing the Fiero.

I really didn't expect there to be so much flaming on this subject. This is a mod I have always had tossed around in my head, and I really don;t think it would be a mod that spells rice as much as lambo doors do. Given the proper time, resources and determination I believe it can be done, and done well. I would love my car to have gullwing doors, I have always admired them and have been intrigued by them. One day..

HAHAH, oh boy is that ever true. I still like to smirk at threads like this, or IRS suspension, etc etc.

MASK !! hahah, I remember that show. Ahh the '80s. I honestly think that TV at a young age helped spur my love for the 3rd gen Camaro.

oh of course, but I imagine for every one person that actually DID IRS, a hundred people talked about doing it. That's all I meant.

Re: gullwing(delorean) doors on a third gen

If I would put on a set of gull wing doors, I would start with fiberglass doors, a t-top car, and lexan for the windows. you would not have to cut off the bottom of the doors just some good sub frame connectors.

as for the IRS, the handling improvement is phenomenal!!!

Yes. A third gen. It is more along lines of a sports car. A corvette would be considered a muscle car. Though the 5th gen with the 505 hp would be a muscle car

Re: gullwing(delorean) doors on a third gen

I don't think many people would classify a corvette as a muscle car, Especially the ones post-70's.

I myself judge if something is a muscle car by the looks of it, I don't care about the "oh man its gotta have a engine way to big for it and **** handling for it to be muscle", So corvettes definitely went "sport" in the 80's at the very least.

Mask > GI Joe.

As for the gullwings, I think it would look nice on a show car.

Deloreans were built with a Stainless Steel body.
There were quite a few around when I was growing up...
I saw one painted Corvette Yellow.
Found out later that it was painted because it had been in a wreck, and bodywork and paint was cheaper than panel replacement.
