stripping the plastic bumper and fixing some nicks. What do I use?
Hey there everyone. I am prepping my rear bumper for paint and have run into a little snag. The PO of this bumper had primered over the paint. Just sprayed it didn't even remove the pinstriping or the dealer stickers. So I removed the pinstriping but now I have this ridge in the paint. The color that was under the primer is yellow but the color under the pinstriping was silver so it's obviously been painted before which would explain the ridge I now have. My question is how do I get rid of this ridge? What I would like to do is take it down to at least the original paint so I can prep it for new paint but my gut is telling me to take it down to bare plastic. Either way what is the best way to strip this bumper?
Also, I put some nicks in the bumper from removing the pinstriping so I was wondering what kind of filler to use to fix those. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

sand it all down with 80-180 grit, then go over it again with 220 grit. I fix my gouges with 3M flexible plastic repair#5887......use adhesion promoter before the 3M stuff and sand smooth. I would then spray the whole bumper with adhesion promoter then spray it with flexible primer, then paint, etc.

I wouldn't try to sand it down to the plastic, go to the orig paint with some 120 or 150. Then use the adhesion promoter (bulldog) before you prime, and before base coat.

I'm not trying to be a wise#@!, but I thought adhesion promoter helps the primer stick to the plastic....right? If the paint that is already there is adhering correctly, shouldn't you just be able to primer over it after some 220 grit? I'm in the middle of prepping all my plastic parts and sanded the nose all the way down cause the paint was pealing off it and the rear cover had spider web cracks all over it.....better to be safe than sorry so I sanded it all off and started over.....and I meant flexible primer not polyflex

I was just offering advice since you asked for some. That is what a pro painter made me do, his comment was why take a chance on it peeling on 1/4 inch place that was overlooked. Since I did exactly what you're doing and I am by no means a painter or bodyman I did as instructed since he restores cars every day.
