A good 383 rotating assembly will cost more than swapping to a 5.3L Gen3 motor. Just do a 5.3L gen 3 swap and you'll be all set to move to a LS1,2,3 down the line later.

Re: junk yard scores!

Just strolling around the yard today and found what looked to be an all original 86 Iroc. Was rummaging through the trunk and managed to pull out the spare tire and bam the instant tire refill thing was staring back at me!

Re: junk yard scores!

I purchased two absolutely perfect quarter panels from a 92 RS (that wasn't cheap) Actually the majority of the car was rust free. I wish I had bought the shell of the car and transferred all of my parts on it. I just didn't want a marked salvage car. Too late now. I also got the mint hatch panel (no glass) as well as the pull down assembly for 50 bucks.

Re: junk yard scores!

Just scored a 92 hatch pull down motor(with wiring harness) for 25 bucks. As well as a mint hatch lid, for 25 bucks.
I converted my 88 Camaro to the new style hatch motor. Its a much better design.

Yes! There are two styles of hatch pull down assemblies. The problem is the new style pull down assemblies mount is completely different than the old style. So to do the swap you have to cut your old mounting bracket and get one out of a vehicle that has the newer style pull down unit. The newer style came about mid year in 91. So some 91 models have them but many dont. I believe all 92 model Camaros have the newer style. I took my old bracket off with a spot weld cutter. Using a regular bit would take off too much metal. The good thing was that the mounting points were mostly the same, so i just marked where the old one was before took it off.
Sorry for the glare i took the picture late in the day after i finished the project.

Some one wanted pics so here you go.
I dont know what to say to this it was v6 car

I think this was 90 rs. But it was very clean and in my favorite color. V8 auto

This one was just sad. 87 gta had a perfect body, wing was a little abused, interior was typical desert interior. 305 auto. Kind of low optioned drum brakes analog dash, Get this 75000 miles.

Re: junk yard scores!

This one made me mad because I want a convertible so bad but everyone around here thinks there worth gold. Except this guy who probably sold it to the junkyard for $300. 89 rs with a early perimeter bolt polished tpi swaped in. Had some cool looking aftermarket rims in it.

Heres some non third gen stuff.
94 trans am with aftermarket shorties on it. Had tan leather interior

Here is a good one. I got way lucky on this one. Edelbrock performer alumn ford 5.0 heads. Get this $40 each!!!

The Camaro was a little rough but I know east coasters would kill for its complete lack of rot, iirc you can buy any car here for $900

I went to the Trans Am, it is not a GTA although it had the wheels and was badged as such. It has fender vents and I checked the rpos, it was a 305...

Nice score! We have 11 camaros and 5 firebirds/trans am in a local yard here no ones touching if you need some more parts. Hes got about every part imagineable there i can go get, even found a set of pmd's for $50.00 and some turbocast rims for $75.00

Was the GTA rpo not there? Or are you basing it off of it being only a 305? They didn't come with fender vents you are correct, but they did come with 305s. Anyway...that is a nice score to find at the junk yard. As much that gets saved from being crushed the better.

I checked the rpo, no Y84. I was suprised to see the passanger head light assembly, wing, and tail gone, its a good thing to see them being saved/used but I have to ask the question; Who else lives where I do and is fixing up a Firebird/TA?

The only yards near me make you pull it and still charge 500% more.

Re: junk yard scores!

you all are pretty lucky hah! all the firebirds, camaros, and have yet to find a trans-am, were all sent to the junk yard due to car wrecks. and ontop of that the interiors are pretty dead and 95% of them are 2.8 efi engines. the only one that wasnt was a 305 that threw a rod. total, at the larges junkyard around here there are like..4 camaros that are all rs's and and 3 firebirds. they hbave some old 70's firebird/trans-am and camaro bodies but are rusted out and gutted.

im about to go ****** the dash and guts out of an 86 camaro berlinetta at a junk yard due to the fact nthat mine is gutted
