Re: junk yard scores!

I found a mint dash pad for a 96 Z28, paid $20 and sold it on ebay for $235. Also found a near mint (except for dog hair) set of front and rear seats (grey cloth), and some leather ones as well. Going to sell the leather ones. Also found tail lights, and various other pieces and some fog lights for my 91.

Re: junk yard scores!

over here in md we have this junkyard called ez pickens. everyone says its a terrible junkyard with junky cars and no parts. i go there one day and i found a gorgeous trans gta with the digital dash tuned port engine and 700r4. it had gta rims(3 with no centercaps) rear disc brakes 9 bolt rear. digital dashboard with a like a cream color interior had the nice power seats with split back seats this thing was loaded and nice in its glory days but the interior looked like it was ripped apart by a bear!!!! the tuned port engine had the throttle body missing. the tires were even the goodyear gatorbacks but they were all popped. ): i walk down the line and found an iroc and a couple v6 fourth gens. then i go over to the front they had a blue camaro tbi 305 complete and running with 200k miles on it and it still ran strong. there was also a lifted pick up truck with a full edelbrock engine. aluminum heads rpm intake carb hooker headers. but the engine was locked up and when i took the air cleaner off the carb looked corroded

Ive been to EZ Pickins a few times before, most recently in June. There was a black gta which had the digital dash already removed. It was right next to a blue convertible buick reatta. They usually dont have much in the yard.Anyways whats up with the guy that works there?I think he is legally blind or something

and your talking about the guy that looks like the clown from the devils rejects right? i dont know what his deal is i bet you could get away with stealing from there. when you went did they still have the blue camaro upfront with the 305 tbi with almost/if not over 200k miles on it that still runs?

Yeah they still had that GTA.It still had all 4 rims on it,digital dash was gone. The blue camaro was there but they dont let you pick off those cars up front. That weirdo guy only charges you for what he can feel since he cant see.Anything you dont hold up he will never see it.Last time I was there I walked out with a windshield trim and top release cables from that reatta vert.

i thought that the gta only had 3 of the rims i guess i was mistaken i do know that all the badges were ripped off it. and yeah that guy is pretty weird i was up front looking at the camaro and he was looking at me or well atleast i think he was looking at me i couldnt tell but his head was in the direction i was standing. i scored and found an nice prolift jack and walked right out with it. i was thinking about going back and rescuing that tpi unit and harness from that gta but it looked pretty beat up

Re: junk yard scores!

The list of awesome scores is so long I can't remember them all, but here's kind of a run down of the past year or so:

COMPLETE 1LE front brake setup- $35
perfect T/A vented hood- cheap, dirt cheap
Perfect Firebird dash pad
Perfect Firebird console lid
various interior screws, brackets, switches
overhead console
IROC rims (set of 4)- single line- $50

etc, etc.....

I can't remember it all. Most of my scores come from Craigslist or eBay, like the 100% perfect blemish free OEM polished Y2K Vette rims with BRAND NEW Bridgestones on all four. I think I got a fairly good deal at $500.

Ill bet they keep that gta out there for awhile. The reatta vert they have has been there for over a year. They always have cool cars up front that you cant pick off of.First time I was there they had a 92 Trans Am vert which ended up being purchased by a member on this board. They also have that late 70`s hurst olds w-30,an 80`s monte ss and there was a blue 3rd gen t/a on the admission window side

Re: junk yard scores!

WORD OF ADVICE ! Today I went to my favorite junk yard. Spent all day looking for 2 good doors for my 91Z. From the front door to the back where the cars are, it's a 25 minute walk, in the HOT sun. Found a 90 RS, with two good doors! The car was too close to the junk car next to it so I asked the fork lift driver to pull it our for me. He started to pull it out and he got a call on his cell phone... see the result in the pic. i was sick in my stomach.

Axle/Gears: 3.42 gears for both
Re: junk yard scores!

Mint Condition Firebird dashpad (thought it might fit in my Camaro, wrong) To Ebay it goes. Miscelanious seatbelt parts, the latches for the front seats. They are the ones at hawks or virtually anywhere else for 145 dollars. Got them at a pick and pull for 30 bucks. Heater box, Strut tower caps, the list is really too long to type.

Re: junk yard scores!

I found alot of good stuff when I was in my budget days and had time to travel to 3-4 yards a week. Now a days I work and just pay for the good stuff. Anyways my great finds were

91-92 Z28 Blisters with all Studs intact - $21
Countless Dash Pads in Perfect Shape (Probably around 5 and more but shipping hassle was too much or I wasnt in need) - $22
145mph 90-92 Cluster- $31
90s Yellow Iroc Dash Emblem- Free
T/A Hood with Perfect Vents - $55 (Found it for a friend)
Alot of Original Radios Mostly Cassette - $22
A set of perfect Crosslace wheels with ok tires-$75

I have countless more, I have had alot of chances to make a quick buck recently but passed since I work most of the day making shipping a hassle. There is alot of good stuff out there for you budget guys, you just have to keep looking and make friends with the yard people. I had a few yards call me when they had 3rd gens come in. Sadly most of em were plain v6's.

Re: junk yard scores!

Did I mention it was the M29 T56 with the close ratios only found in 93' F-bodies with the performance axle ratio? Course the BAD part is that the 93's can't be swapped with LS1 parts to work on a LS1 car. So I'd have to sell/trade it if I ever go Gen3.

Re: junk yard scores!

Well I was wanting to start a new thread and ask if there is any value in TPI parts anymore. Back when I was dabbling in TPI engine rebuilds and performance they were like gold. I'm clearing out my shop and ran accross a box of intakes, runners, throttle bodies, runners and misc. Going to list them on ebay but wondering if its even worth the hassle anymore. Sure would appreciate it if an admin would move this question to a thread so I could aquire some input. Throw the stuff in the dumpster or ebay it?
