Quarter Skins

Im looking to replace the quarters(actually just portions of them) on my 88 Sport Coupe. There are only a few rust spots on the quarters so i dont think i should replace the whole skin. The rusty spots are in the curved areas on the bottoms to the rear of the wheel wells of both quarters.
So...To get to my question. When you get quarter skins do they actually mount to the original weld points for the original quarter panel?

I hope what im asking is understandable. If not ill post pictures of the rusty spots on the quarter panels.

Re: Quarter Skins

Section them in. Same number of spot welds as the factory. Move spot welds over 1/2 or so from the factory location if possible. Plug welds may be used instead of spot welds (8mm). For sectioned seam weld I generally use a butt weld with backing.

Re: Quarter Skins

Ill post pics tommarro but....1/4 of the wheel well edge is gone on the back portion of the wheel well on the drivers side. Not to mention the bottom portion i want replaced has pin holes all over the place. If i were to weld to that it would just burn right through. So to make it look decent i will have to replace most of that area. I figure it would save me a headache if i just drilled out the spot welds in that area when i cut it. Plus it would look factory. Not that anyone would see it, but i would know and want to make sure that I wont be doing it again. The passenger side i can patch, but the drivers side just doesnt make sense. Youll see it in the photo's.
