Paint gun question
I have never painted anything on a car before so this was my first shot. Major fail. I think I know what I did wrong, but I figured I would ask. I have an ATD 1.4mm gun. The instructions say the delivered air pressure should be between 29-50psi. I set it to 30psi. Now, when I pull the trigger it drops to 10psi. I'm thinking it should be 29-50psi when the trigger is pulled. The gun does have a regulator on it and that's what I'm going by. The paint looks like it wasn't sufficiently atomized and on the third coat it was instant orange peel. I put on one light, one a little heavier, and a third to try and even it out. I don't think I got enough paint for one and it was too coarse also. Still learning. By the way, I'm painting the hood. Single stage paint.
Re: Paint gun question
You are spraying at 10 PSI. Connect your gun to the air line and pull the trigger only enough to flow air and not fluid. Now with air flowing set your reg to 40 or 45 PSI. Adjust your fluid control to about 1/3 of the max setting. Find something to practice on and use about 8 to 10 inch gun distance overlapping your passes by 50 to 70 percent. Practice for awhile and you'll find what works best for you.
