Japan rear fender flares?

Anybody know if they are still available in Japan anywhere? Or where I might be able to get a set? I've got a 1995 Firehawk spare rear axle & wouldn't mind using it, but my tires would set out past the top of the fenders, with my aftermarket wheels.

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

I don't want the front flares, just the rears. But if buying the complete set is the only way to get the rears, I just might if the price is right.

And with the way Firebird taillights fit & the panel in-between them, you can't just more the lights outwards. There would be big gaps between the lenses & center section.

Before I did the steel route, I would get the IMSA pieces from that cover the whole quarter panel. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/firebird8292.html

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

I saw those awhile back, but I'm not willing to spend $170 on "Maybe this will fit?" I'm sure they would be a hassle to return. Consider those a last ditch choice.

I just checked my car & for flares like that to fit along the stock body line it would need to span 24.5". Those are only 19", so wouldn't quite fit right.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I asked about what I want, not for suggestions on how to cover wide tires.

I already posted a link to those before you even suggested them, after somebody else suggest Neil's quarter panel mod. IMSA = Widebody

I have already talked to them & they will sell just the quarters & either I can buy just the rear portions of the ground fx that flare out to match & blend those in with my stock pieces, or the complete ground fx pieces that fit to the flare rear quarters.

Sorry guys, but I asked about where to get what I want. Not for suggestions on other products.

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

If there was anyone in the states selling them, we would know

Could spend the money to have a glass shop make a mold and sell 10 sets to cover your cost.

The molding is what cost up front, they will sell easy.

FYI copy the black/green car, the ones on the red one look just awful.

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

I don't think the black/green car has the flare on it, I believe the car was originally green, painted black without taking the flare off, then the flare was removed

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

I can see the pictures just fine, Stephen. If you look at the red car you will see that there is a noticeable lip on the flare, both at the top and where it meets the body line on the side. The green/black car doesn't have that.

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

Red car ones just have way to heavy of a lip where they meets the body.

Like said above, they could be uni fender flares off some truck, they tend to have those hard lip bulky plastic look.

which i have actualy looked into, finding fender flares of a truck with a similar arch.

Re: Japan rear fender flares?

I have no idea if the red & green car have the same flares (brand/maker) or if they are totally different.

What I do know is that I would not simply slap mine on. They would be mounted secure, molded in, then everything repainted, so it looked like the car was built that way, not just an added-on piece.

The Widebody/IMSA quarters would be very nice & a preferable choice, but also cost more.

Wow. Thats ugly. But if it suits your taste, then go for it. Maby a metal fabricator can do something like that for you. I know its possible. Just look at American Chopper, Jr vs Senior. Rick sometimes bends sheet metal into shapes that I thought where made stamping or by pouring molten metal into a mold.

I'd think that once they were molded in & painted, they'd be more like Niel's widened quarters. You look at them & know something is not quite normal, but your not sure what!

Could probably pull a myth buster and carve and shape what you want from foam and then glass over it, leaving the foam inside. [not mold making]

Very good point and thought. Remember the RS that they used to make that funky Batmobile? Man that got under my skin.

I had been thinking wondering about that & wanted to investigate actually making them as molds that could be reproduced again, but I'd hafta figure out the mold-making process. I'd seen it in videos, but that certainly doesn't equal understanding how to do it.

though not talking about making molds, you carve foam into the flare for each side,[make 2] you then glass over the foam onto the car, foam stays inside as filler.

Would be less work then trying to reshape n mold those red car ones.

now if you want to go all out n make a mold......

I dunno whether to thank you for the link, or be mad at you for complicating my life because I will be reading that site a lot now!

I knew the foam part of just making parts on the car & leaving them there. It was the mold part of reproducing multiple parts that thought about learning. I figured if I successfully made some good ones, others might be interested in buying some, so that I could at least recoup my $ invested in making my own set.
