Broken window stop...options?

Hey all. I am completely restoring my 86 trans am. Recently while adjusting the windows, After rolling them up and down so many times to get them lined up, the white colored plastic stop broke. It's the piece towards the front of the window that is riveted to the glass. Looks like an upside down "L". My windows are in great shape and I refuse to replace them just to get a new stop. Is there any company that sells these that you guys know of?

I'm sort of in a bind here. I would hate to rumage through a junkyard and try to drill a rivet out of a window that can't be rolled up or down due to no battery power. Do you need any special rivet gun or will just a standard one be fine? I don't know how much stress the glass would take when installing a new rivet so I'm just curious.

Re: Broken window stop...options?

I have a 89 Formula. It is at my Dads house getting painted which is no where near me. He is telling me that there is a piece inside the passenger door that somehow mounts into the holes of the window itself to basically stop the window from going too far up or down. Im not 100% sure when Im not there myself to look at this. Is this the same part that you guys have been talking about? OR does anyone know the name of this part or where I can get one?
Thanks so much for anyones help. -LAURA-

Welcome to TGO, Laura.

If the part is plastic, yes (note the name in my first post). If the part is rubber, no. Here's a pic of the latter:

The above (x 2, IIRC), which is at the bottom of the window track, usually wears/rots and falls to the bottom of the door where it rolls around loosely.

Re: Broken window stop...options?

Hello again James
I talked to my dad and he got the #18 part. He needs two of the plastic piece that goes up into #4. He says they are not the same as the diagram I send him. He sent me a picture of the drivers side so I could try to find it.

Re: Broken window stop...options?

Laura, I've never seen that configuration before (my car is an 85). My guess is that it's part #11 in the link above, Pin, Wdo, Stab 10113702.

Re: Broken window stop...options?

Thats the same configuration I've got on my 92. I think it was a 90-92 thing, but I can't say for sure the part numbers or anything. But it does look to be #11 like James said.

Mine's an 88 and the window stop broke it had part # 20216825 stamped on it like the member posted in the link above. WhitedevilTA did u pop rivet urs in or bolt it in weirdly enough my power windows have worked fine without it I'm worried its adding extra stress on other components.

I ended up pulling the window out of a spare door I had laying around and took the stopper off of that. I just used a bolt and locking nut with a few washers to reinstall it since I didn't feel very comfortable putting a big 1/4" rivet into a glass window lol. Seems to be working fine so far. In your case, the window will work without it, but it will overextend when you roll it up and the only thing keeping it down is the rubber triangular seal at the front edge of the door. Eventually it could rip and the window will not line up with the seal anymore.

I have done several windows for my Camaros . I bought the rivets from AUVECO and a large scissor type rivet gun . It looks like original and I also used it to replace window motors , door lock actuators , etc . It's not hard and it looks like it is supposed to . Good Luck .
