Paint Mystery

Hi Guys,

So i've checked out the plate under my hood looking for the paint code, and I come up with 65U 65L. This is a small mystery, because my car is a two tone z28 (I double checked the VIN, it really is an 84 z28). The car is a metallic brown, and the GFX are metallic gold (hence the confusion for upper and lower being the same number). Even still, after looking for these paint codes, I come up empty. None match exactly, and the close ones aren't the right ones. Am I looking at the wrong code? How do I find the true color code for my car? I want to buy paint for it to do some body work and re-do my cowl hood...and it's been frustrating. Thanks very much, I will attach a picture.

Re: Paint Mystery

Interestingly, according to camarosource.ca the colour combo that fits best is dark gold metallic, but they say the paint code is 67. Can anyone confirm or rebuke this statement?

Re: Paint Mystery

Like you say, those two should be different numbers if it's a true two-tone. Has it been repainted?

Re: Paint Mystery

Dark Gold Metallic is correct if my memory serves me right. I received a brand new 84 Z28 for my 18th birthday, and it was that very same color, and is fairly rare.

Re: Paint Mystery

I'm fairly sure it hasn't been repainted, it's a true Z according to the VIN, and the color scheme was only available on the z28s. When you search 1984 Camaro z28 in google images, a version of my car comes up (a little dirtier) for an article by Chevy High Performance magazine. They never say what colour it is, but they repaint it anyway.
vertigo: that's really cool, what an 18th birthday present! I love my car, and I want to keep it the original colors (even if I get a full re-spray). I understand that it is uncommon, I've never seen one like it in person, and rarely even on the internet. I'm hoping dark gold metallic is right, I'm going to try and order some touch up stuff for the rear wheel arches. Please let me know if anyone else has thoughts on this.

Re: Paint Mystery

Hi guys, sorry for the delay. So, it turns out the color is called Dark Goldwing Metallic, paint code 65E from chevy. I got a paint sample and a spray can made up today and it looks great. A little darker from what the car looks like now, but 28 yrs on sunshine will do that I'm sure. Thanks for your help guys, and I'll post pics when i'm finished the touch ups.
