Access hole in hatch bump

Why the hell do people hack up these cars to get access to the gas tank?second question. how do i fix this short of matching up anti-bodyflex grooves, and welding another piece of steel on top?

They do it to change out the fuel pump quicker. Not so bad if done right if you ask me. Its the ones who just hacksaw the panel to get to the pump and leave it as is that cause this "mod" and the people who do it right, to get such a bad rep. If you dont like yours, just weld it shut.

Re: Access hole in hatch bump

it may be easier to cut out an oversized section from a junked car to weld in place. less custom sheet work needed.

the access hole is good in theory, usually pretty bad in practice though. not to mention the design of our sending units make doing a clean setup difficult. would be perfect for anyone doing a 4th gen tank swap though...

Very little are actually done right though. The people who have the skills to do it "right", do it the way it should be done in the first place.

Re: Access hole in hatch bump

I got my car with it done. I dont ,imd it as it was done clean and not tooo big. The panel is riveted in and If I ever needed to change the pump quick. It will be a hell of alot easier then pulling the tank when its full as I like to make sure my tank is full on any vehicle I own all the time. Never know when you will need the fuel if something happens. If it wasnt done to my car already Im not sure I would do it to it. If I did I would do it so it was like the honda set up for sure. Might even look for a plate like that the next time im at the wreck so I can replace mine. I do have a 4th gen tank too if that matters
