re laminating (gluing) a fiberglass hood

I'm looking for recommendations on re laminating my fiberglass hood. It separated on me one night while driving down the highway and basically the top half of the hood flew off. It did not break which I am surprised. I don't want to spend more money on another hood so I would like to just glue this one back together but I cant just use anything to do the job. Can anyone recommend any 2 part epoxy or something that will hold up to vibration, heat and cold? I will be using hood pins this time around.

You needing "Panel Bonding Adhesive". I've used it in the past to glue on truck bedsides...quarter panels...ect. It's ICAR Certified as well....some say it's stronger than a weld.

Most local body shop supply stores should have it...or check some local body shops.

Who made your hood? I wanna know so that I stay away from buying a product that the make cuts corners by making such a product that can come apart like that. Never heard of a Corvette coming aprt like that so it is possible to put fiberglass parts together that don't come apart.

I wanna say it was American Sport Car Design but I could be wrong. Its been a while since this happened and I just parked the car and got caught up in other things in life. Im not trying to not buy a new hood but I wont if I dont have too. The panel adhesive and applicator will run me about $200 and I have no idea how the heck I am going to clmap this hood together to ensure the adhesive seals and holds the two parts together. The area that needs the glue is about 10" inward of the edge of the hood. I will have to buy a **** load of clamps just to do the job.

Make sure you have a mess of clamps to eliminate any pockets or voids in between the layers and that hood will never come apart again.

Some of those products require an expensive applicator.

Re: re laminating (gluing) a fiberglass hood

I used a tube of 3M 5200 marine adhesive/sealant to glue my hood together, and then fiberglassed the edges together. I don't know how it's going to hold up yet, as I'm still finishing the hood and painting, but it's waterproof and is supposed to have a 700lb/inch holding strength. And you only need a small calking gun and clamps to apply it.

i couldnt tell you how much it cost its actually in 5 gal buckets and you catalize it with mekp. I use to just spread it around with a trowel, all you do is scuff up the two pieces to bond and weight it down it just spreads itself out.
