Re: Repainting 87 Formula in garage paintbooth

Got the carpet down and the back interior plastics loosely fitted.

All bolt holes located and power seat harness for the 4th gen seats wired in

And the new Hawks wing waiting to go on. Locating clips on the wing was pretty easy.

Looks like a new car. Nice work. Those are 4th gen seats, correct? Are they a direct bolt-in?

Thanks guys. Yes the seats are 4th gen power seats with inflatable lumbar supports. They are a direct bolt in as are the seat belts.

Re: Repainting 87 Formula in garage paintboth - DONE!

Fantastic turn out! That car is really something to be proud of. You should be proud how it came out, and your son should be very proud to drive it!

Cant believe thats your first full paint job... Wouldnt have guessed it. I like that you left the spoiler black. My 86 had the black textured wrap around on it from the factory. I sold it since it was perfect, and had a Hawks laying around. I figured I would unload it before it split apart haha. I painted the Hawks black...and I think when the car gets painted its going to remain flat/textured black. Unless I paint the car black, then its getting gloss.

She really looks good! Again, great job!

J.

Re: Repainting 87 Formula in garage paintboth - DONE!

Thanks guys I appreciate it. My son finally got to take her down to the annual car show today. Lots of positive feedback. It was the only 3rd gen at the show and was getting more attention than the pristine chevelles and 2nd gen camaros and firebirds I should have taken some pictures but I was more concerned with keeping all the little kiddie hands off the car

I debated on the wing being red, but chose to go with black to give it a little contrast. I felt that it needed just a little something to break up the color a bit. But it was a toss up and could have gone either way.

Car look great, but the mud flaps kill the look. The spoiler does not look bad in black.

I actually had a couple of guys from a car club, that I know through a friend, ask me to paint a couple of their cars.....I'm seriously considering painting one or two to pay for my own car. Would be pretty cool to get mine done for "free" so to speak. But it's a big commitment and soooo time consuming.

Wow, just wow!!! That looks great man, you really did a heck of a job there!!

I hope when I try to do mine I'll manage at least half as good as you did. Just great man!!

Maybe you could do a quick write up of what tools you used especially what kind of compressor and filtersystems etc. , how much paint and of what type etc just to get a reference point. Obviously the hours behind it are many but totally worth it.
