1982 firebird

I have been looking at a 1982 firebird. It has been sitting for a very long time has not seen the road since 92. It has been garage kept. Also has the 305 for the engine. I don't know if it starts right now, but im going to go check later hopefully today or this weekend. Im wondering what is a fair price for a car that needs a restoration? I think the guy wants around $1,500
It has t-tops 2 sets of rims one being far gone and not worth saving. all the interior was tore out of it for some reason but still has it, but i dont know if he has all the screws and bolts labeled which could take some time to put back together. Im mainly looking at if this is something i should consider to fix and restore for the price? what would be a price i should offer? If you have any questions or some things things I should look for let me know thanks i appreciate it.

Re: 1982 firebird

Id do it, i payed $1100 for mine out of highscool. The interior was shot and it hadnt been run in like 20 years but its great now. Getting it running was easy as was redoing the interior (assuming you have th money to do t right away or dont mind doing a little at a time). As long as the body is in good shape id go for it. Check the t-top area really good, the floor pans, and the wheel wells.

Re: 1982 firebird

A plain jane bird or is it a t/a or formula?
Rusty or solid?
If its torn apart not rotted badly buts runs well a $500 offer is fair IMO.

Heck..........My 84 Z-28 was solid, no rust, perfect interior, no dents or smashes, faded paint, new tranny, 100% stock direct from NC with 130k miles and I paid
$1500 bucks !

Re: 1982 firebird

i was just talking to the owner and it has a 4 speed. If i wanted to change it to a t-56 would it be harder since I have no idea what kind of changes were made to fit the muncie 4 speed?

Re: 1982 firebird

It would be more difficult since the early cars, V6 or V8 (i think), have mechanical clutches rather than hydraulic ones. There is a company right down the street from me that makes drop in T-56 for cars with mechanical clutches. I havnt contacted them yet because i dont have the cash but i want a T-56 for my V6 as well.

Heres the article for a swap done by a magazine review. Of course, if your car has a hydraulic clutch all of this goes out the window i think. You do always have the option of converting everything rather than doing the kit but im not in the know on this stuff so someone else can chime in.
