Colorsanding

Forgive my noobish-ness.

I finished spraying my car with a single stage paint.
I have runs in about three areas (the paint was black and part of the car was in the shade, so I couldn't see the paint hitting. )

There is also orange peel everywhere.

What grit should I use to colorsand the runs out? Then, what should I use for the orange peel?

Re: Colorsanding

Start with 600 for the runs only. If your real careful you can shave the top with a razor blade like this. If you're unsure of yourself, then don't, use the 600 with a rigid straight edge to address the runs. If there's enough paint on the car, start with 1000 and work your way up to eliminate the peel.

Re: Colorsanding

tape the two edges of a razor blade with a single wrap of masking tape. scrape the runs down holding the razor at a 90* angle. once you have the run scraped down hit it with 1000 grit then 2000 grit. i wouldnt go anything lower that 1000 grit. it doesnt take much to sand through. make ABSOLUTELY sure that the paint is dry. if you try while the clear is still soft youll have big problems.

Re: Colorsanding

Wet sanding and a buff will do the trick also.

the method that i wrote above will work on any non metallic single stage or any base/clear. always use a block when sanding and buff it out after you hit it with 2000grit. with it being black you will always see a shadow of where the run was. so the only way to completely eliminate it is to repaint that panel.

Re: Colorsanding

Thanks for the advice guys. I only have four coats on. I'm too scared to use 600, but the 1000 seemed to work fine, it just takes a long time.
