Aerosol clearcoat
Have any of you tried using aerosol clear to restore areas where the factory clear has worn away? I'm looking at buying an 88 Formula for my nephew and the car has decent looking paint from the roof rail down, it's just the roof that's bad. I'm thinking maybe I could spray the roof with this clear, then wetsand it smooth. I know it won't look perfect, but I don't want to spend a fortune on paint until I know he'll take care of the car.

Well I've always noticed in areas where the clear has eroded away, if you wet it with a water hose, it looks deep and shiny again. This is kinda the same concept I guess.
I remember years ago they made this stuff that was acrylic and it came with a special sponge applicator. You could put that stuff on faded paint and it instantly deepened it up. I can't remember the name of it though.

Re: Aerosol clearcoat
I've used some before when I was deciding what color to paint my car. I got a can of it and three samples of PPG basecoat and sprayed them all on an old fender. It worked well, not near the depth and gloss of a real high end clear, but it'll certainly work for a touch up, especially if it's a 2k style. It'll bring back the shine real well, just feather the edge where the old clear ends with some 1000 grit and spray away!

Please remember, half-a$$ing it now will most likely cost a fortune later. It will all need to be stripped for the "good" stuff to adhere.
That's putting it mildly.
I know it won't look perfect

If its a real 2K in that rattle can (eg. Has a time limit after activating) -which it probably is- it won't be halfassing it cause it'd be like using PPG's omni clear. Cheap but miles better than the best crap clear you find in wally world.
And the original clear at least would have to be sanded off anyway before doing it right, so this wouldn't be anymore work and it wouldn't even gum up the paper because it'll chemically harden.
