4th gen F-bird door panel speaker pods on 3rd gen doors

Has anyone ever tried this? I thought about trying to fit a set of the speaker pods from a 4th gen firebird/trans am onto my door panels in my 91 RS so I can install a set of components for my stereo system. What do you guys think?

It can't happen. If you have manual windows, the cranks will be in the way, and if you have power windows the motor is in the way. With manual windows it's possible to fit the speakers way down low in the door, but getting 4th gen grills to fit isn't likely. With power windows, you need to build out the door the full depth of the speaker.

something else you might try is some kick panel pods from Crutchfields. They're are about $220 though so they are pobably a little more expensive. If you really want those speakers though you might try that route

The only thing I don't like about the kick panel pods are that they are just a bit too shallow and won't allow quite enough midbass sound.I'm a manager/installer at an audio shop,so I can get the pods cheap. I have a set on my door panels that I built, but I thought the 4th gen door pods would be different. I realize there may not be enough depth because of the window motor, but I'm going to try to fab something to make 'em fit.Just a thought.

If you're an installer, build your own kicks! I built a set to hold my 6.5" separates because the Q logic pods only accomodate 5 1/4", they look cheap, and they encroach on your foot space. Here's the ones I built:

The imaging is fantastic, and the midbass, although a little tubby, is pretty good just because of the cone size.

Do a search. As long as the car audio stuff before thirdgen went away is still here, you should find a couple posts. They are either here or nethirdgen.org. I forget. I had 2 long step by step progress reports with all of the pics.
