There is a tech article somewhere on how to do this, but I forget which site it's on. Also there are 2 different styles of the overhead console, one for t-top cars and one for hardtops. I think the t-top one is more flat. Just take your time and it should not be too bad of a project. Good luck!

The t-top one is much more flat than the hardtop version, installation looks to be pretty easy i have yet to do it myself ( i have taken one out of a hardtop car) but i did print the tech article from this site awhile back.
I am planning on doing it over the winter.
just take the headliner out cut the right holes where needed and drill 4 holes to mount up the mounting bolts for the console.

Hope this helps.

About six months ago I bought an overhead console from IROCZ-Dave for my '87 IROCZ. It came with great documentation and the fairly rare flashlight. The tech instructions are on this site somewhere. Anyway, the hardest part was removing and reinstalling the plastic moldings around the headliner. Just about impossible to do without breaking something. And the headline was so fragile that in spite of being supercareful it still required repairs on the backside. The best feature of the overhead console is that the leather pocket is a perfect receptacle for my cell phone ... if not for that, I'd rather have the powered rear view mirror with the two lights (have one in my other Z28, a '92 25th anniversary 5.7).
