IROC interior question
IROC interior question
I recently read one of the magazine articles posted on this site about the '87 Ford Mustang vs. '87 Chevy IROC (Road & Track Oct. '86). Decided to check eBay and found this particular issue for sale, and won the auction for it. Excellent article and nice pictures too (especially since the reviewers/testers favored the IROC
). 149 mph top speed! (The Mustang wasn't far behind at 148 mph, to be fair.)
I was pleasantly suprised to see that the IROC has the same exact interior as my '87 RS, except for the badge on the dash. Both have the custom cloth seats with gray piping. Also, there's a switch (that my RS doesn't have) on the center console between the power window switches; I assume this a rear hatch release? Does anyone know if this is something that can be easily added if you don't already have one? I thought only Firebirds had those.

depends on if your rear hatch area will need the support for the motor assembly welded into place, or if you've got it already...
when you remove your rear cover, does it resemble this picture strongly???(of course minus the motor assembly)

Thanks for your quick response Duffster, and the excellent picture.
My RS has the automatic "pull-down" motor for the hatch when it latches, so I'm going to assume that the bracket's there too. I'll take the cover off tomorrow and have a look. BTW-does your picture show both (the pull-down and hatch release),and if so, which is which? I've never had the cover off the back of mine.

the shiny silver thing w/the red reflection in the center is the release. the motor for the pulldown is the can on the bottom left... it moves the ENTIRE assembly up and down...
hope this helps
you should already have a switch located in the middle of your console next to your forearm when driving...like this one between the window switches...
