Hood bending?

So I finally got my first 3rd gen today, a 91 Z28. I was cleaning it up from about 2pm to 8pm. As I had to open the hood up I noticed sometimes when I opened it the hood would bend. One side would come up and the other side would stay down and bend the hood. Whenever it happened I put the hood down right away so it doesn't get ruined and tried to re-open it and it was fine. But is this a common thing on this model car? Or is it just possibly bad alignment?

Re: Hood bending?

Common if the hinges are not lubricated and or if one of the shocks is in better shape than the other. In other words, if one side of the shock has good pressure, it'll help push up that end. But if the other side has no pressure, it can bind. Just shoot all the movable joints with wd-40. Should be fine afterwards.

I had to Wd-40 the latch for the hood because it was hard to pop the hood open. But I didn't even think to do that to the hinges, I'll give it a try tomorrow, thanks.

Re: Hood bending?

The same thing happens on my hood with new shocks. I think it is something that always happens since the hoods are so heavy. Try using some lithium grease. That will stay on the hinges longer and better than wd40.

Congrats on the car pickup. Can we have some pics?

Re: Hood bending?

I think even bearing grease will work too. That stuff will last for a long time givin the fact that it is a high temp grease. But dont put so much that its gonna glob up the whole area. Remember, when grease products warm up with engine heat or weather, they will begin to leave a spreading type of grease trail.

Re: Hood bending?

I use motor oil in a squirt can for door, hood hinges/latch and hatch hinges.

It's a pretty good looking car for $2,600

That's a good lubrication? If the WD-40 doesn't work maybe I'll try some of that.
