Defrosting the back window...

Hello, im new to these boards, i have two camaro's, one sitting on my parents property in michigan, a 1982 camaro berlinetta with a 355 and a whole lot of mods. I recently joined the navy and now located on base in SC and bought a 91 camaro rs somewhat modified. My question is this, how can i rig up something to defrost my back window, i have no rear defroser and it frosts up real bad. Any idea's would be great! thanx.

Welcome to the boards!! I can think of one solution, but it does not seem that practicle. Go to a yard and get the window and switch out of a trashed Camaro.

they sell different size rear defrosters in the JC whitney book that you can buy and install, however, not sure how they hook up, but they have then.

You might try www.jcwhitney.com and look in there truck or rv section. they do sell re window defrosters/heater for things like vans/suv's that don't have anything in the back. hope that helps

I've seen a ton of auto parts stores carry a stick-on element for cars without a rear-defrost. I think it includes a toggle switch setup, either that or it plugs into the lighter. It'll be a fix for now, but in order to get the factory one, I think you'll have to replace the hatch glass with one with rear-defrost, and install wiring and a switch from a donor car. Good Luck!

one more thing, not related to this topic.... where is a good place to buy '91 camaro original parts 'online'.... im looking for the center console lid and seat belt's (the piece with the button - both don't hold the belt in, it just pops right back out). Thanx for the jcwhitney link btw!

Online you could try ThirdGenResource, or Nextgenparts.com, but most likely you'll be better off goin to your local GM parts dealer. I know there was a recall dealing with the seatbelt mechanism, but don't htink it went up to '91. For the console lid, I've seen a few new ones on ebay recently, you could try there.

Are they still replacing those? I heard that they were only obligated to fix X percentage of the cars with a seat belt problem, and upon meeting the requirement, discontinued replacing them for free.
