overhead console switch idea/wiring...
So I got the console in, and it's definately cool, but I want to customize. Those roller thingies are USELESS. I think (and I believe someone else has done this, if you read this, throw me any pointers) I'm going to remove the rollers, and replace them with a solid switch panel.
IDEA: install rockers switches (4-5) vertically positioned next to eachother (red backlit swtches from Radio shack, 30 A handling, though I wouldn't have them light up), and leave them unlabeled so I could just ratchet through the ones I need at any given time.
Switches would be 1)fan, 2)amp kill switch, 3)fog lights, 4)custom lighting, and possibly 5)an extra one just in case I need to wire it up later.
Good idea/bad idea?
Also, all of them need a 12 volt source, so I was thinking instead of running 5 seperate wires up and five seperate wires back, could I run one fat battery cable (like for an amp) up there, and then run the others around from there? Should I run the fat power supply from the battery or the alternator? Any other input?
thanks ahead and for reading this long one.

theres yeses and no's that that.
Another thing that would make it possible is to geat a relay switch, what it does is you have your red switches, you flip one, current gets sent to relay, relay then closes circuit, because the relay can handle runnning larger currents.
im so for not being all that clear, but someone else should be able to relate, i have a red light up rocker, controls foglights, and it heats upppp alllllot.
type custom console in the search, youll find something i posted, laterz,

If you're using the same switch as I am, just don't connect the light for it. I"m running a full 30 amps through mine (fan switch) and it doesn't heat up at all since I took away the ground for the light. I used to burn them out they'd heat up so much, no more problems though. Good luck.
