How to paint/prep my rubber aero spoiler?

While it has certainly seen better days my aero spoiler is actually in decent shape with just one split on the seem and the rubber still feels good except that its been faded over time. Is there any way to get a paint to stick to the spoiler because otherwise my paint doesnt look that bad for an 86.

Throw it in the garbage and save for a fiberglass one.
Just kidding, I had three and preped the one that was pretty nice. It looked ok for a year but the expantion and contraction it eventually cracked in many places.

Well a year is all I really expect getting out of it, i was just looking make it look nice until I had extra money for cosmetic stuff. With all the work it needs ways off though. Any help/tips on how to prep the surface/ what paint to use? Would the duplicolor interior and vinyl paint work since it can expand and contract with the surface or am I way off?

Maybe if you post a few pics of your existing one we could offer more advice on what to do about restoration of said part. No matter what you do, it will fail eventually.

Marine Gel coat style paint will survive longer on there better than any other paint.

Figures GM designs the most PERFECT looking spoiler, then makes it out of the dumbest possible material available.

I'm thinking of getting this to repair it:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...4#.T-vmHxdI-fY

Gelcoat might be hard to find locally in anything but white.

Ok lol i get it its junk but ive got a list right now and this isnt right at the top, especially at $400 so ill get some pictures of it tomorrow to see what you guys think. i just want to spruce it up a bit because its a real eyesore, almost as bad as the ******* side exhaust the po installed which is at the top of my list to fix.

Lol thank god it doesn't. I believe they are flowmaster 40's and after a 2 hour drive home I'm ready to pitch them. And as every ******* exhaust should they scrape everywhere.

Re: How to paint/prep my rubber aero spoiler?

I'd say salvage the wing and use the $ for exhaust.

I found an aero locally for my car and I'm gonna pay 100 for a kind of crappy one. Somebody ditched my cars original wrap around for the flat style spoiler so they could have awesome rear window louvres. And of course they rattle can black painted it. If I could go back in time I'd kill them before they'd commit such a crime.

Re: How to paint/prep my rubber aero spoiler?

My Aeor spoiler is done, I mean done. I'm trying to keep the car stock looking for the most part, but I'm thinking of getting a older/newer Firebird spoiler-the one that is just like a low T if that makes sense? I'm not a huge fan of the looks of the aero spoiler and don't want to spend $400 on a fiberglass one. If I were you I would not mess with the OEM spoiler as it's just going to crack more. I think everytime I go get my car out there is a new crack in my spolier LOL!
