dash lights

When I bought my car, the electronics were all messed up. But the dash lights never worked. I have another dash that I want to install, but I can't tell how the lights work.

What I mean is, the only place the lights mount is in the back. In my extra dash, there are four pieces. The blue back,(the part that everything mounts to) the part that covers the guages,(used to be the same blue, but it's painted black). That's the part that has four holes in it. Then the flat, clear piece, then the cover that mounts it all in.

Is there another plastic piece that directs the light?

Any help would be apriciated.

I could be wrong, but I dont think there is. All but like 2 lights were burnt out in the dash on my '83, so I pulled the entire instrument 'cluster' (actually speedo, fuel gauge, dummy lights) out and the bulbs just twist out with little *****. I doubt yours is missing any parts. I put red bulbs in mine, but Id suggest against it (too dim). Maybe I totally missed to point of this??? Hope this helps.

As far as I know, GM made two different dash lighting options, one with( I think ) two bulbs in the front and the backlit that you have.
