Power hatch or Power lock?

Probably a stupid question but here goes. I've got a stock '84 Z28. The console button located between the power windows switch. Is it just a Power truck release or should it release the trunk and operate a Power hatch motor as well? If it's supposed to operate the Power hatch motor...I got problems. TIA

it's just to pop it. I don't think they came with a motor stock either, but it could be that it's just a regular lock with the pop actuator on it.

the switch does opperate the power hatch motor. In 84 the motor was an option.

Yep! Its a power truck relase! Just like Knight Rider! When you hit that button, a truck will come flying out of the front of your camaro! just kiddin around,

It should be the trunk release. When you hit the button, it should unlock the hatch. Sounds like you got troubles, check the connector at the actual motor to see if it isnt loose...

The button releases the latch. You may or may not have a power hatch motor. The power hatch motor is not powered by any switch in the car. the motor has a momentary contact switch in the latch itself. when the latch is released the switch opens and the hatch motor comes up. When you close the hatch the switch closes and the motor pulls the hatch down. If you look at the pannel in the back if you have the pull down hatch you will have a contact pad to the left of the hatch as you look into the car from the rear. If you don't have the pull down motor you will just have a slot of the hatch catch. If the switch in the center console is not working there is a relay under the console that could be the problem. Check to see if you have power to the relay if you do you probably have a bad relay.

I added an interior trunk release to my car over the summer. When I just added the switch (I was prewired from the factory for a trunk release) and hit it, the trunk motor went up and down, but did not release the hatch. I needed the separate trunk popper for that.

Also remember that the hatch release is tied into the park/neutral safety switch for automatics or the parking brake on a manual car. You don't want to open it at speed.

that contact pad is for the third brake light, not the hatch pull down...
