Hatch pulldown motor question
Hatch pulldown motor question
Is the hatch pulldown motor from an '88 Camaro the same as an '87 Firebird?

I know they're the same motor on both as long as they're 89 or older, they changed to a different motor design in 90, but yes, it will fit. and don't worry if one has a remote release and you don't have the hook-up, it's still mechanical.
lf you dont have the hookup, its there. On my 89 bird it was under the passenger side dash. Right behind the map folder. lt has a receptacle for the relay (Same as horn relay BTW). Then behind the instrument "faceplate" you should find the connector. You could try to splice in a switch, or spend a couple of bucks and get the correct one from the dealer. Having done it both ways, ld recommend getting the right one from the dealer.

Wiring colors:
Relay:
Orange: Power from CTSY fuse
Black: To hatch release
Black/White: From switch
Switch:
Gray: Power to lighted switch
Black: Ground for light
Black/White: To relay
Tan/White: To parking brake (prevents button operation when vehicle is running)
Hope this helped some.

Same. I have a 90 RS convertible and a 88 Iroc. Both have the same pull down motor design. The only difference in my case was the lack of a remote release provision on the convertible. But the motor assy itself is identicle. BTW, take yours apart and repair it if it sin't already too badly broken. All 3 assemblies I have showed either cracks in the motor housing or were completely broken where it attaches to the pull down slider assembly. If it isn't alredy completely broken it can be reinforced and repaired with epoxy. I formed some thin aluminum sheet stock over the face and epoxied it to the motor housing. I formed tabs that wrapped onto the sides for extra reinforcement. If done before it has completely broken the repair is much easier.
