Decal placement for 1985 Trans Am

We have a 1985 Trans Am that is being repainted. We purchased a decal kit that includes the large hood bird, the small nose bird, the two small sail panel birds. Which direction (front or back of car) should the sail panel birds face?

They only go on one way,the bird is designed with the head turned to the left.If you want to be correct, the nose bird isn't used when the lg.hood bird is used.

Re: Decal placement for 1985 Trans Am

The decal kit includes three small birds. Two of the heads face left and the third faces right. This car has been painted once before and the person who installed the decals the last time did not notice one was different and did not install them correctly. I think the nose bird and the driver side sail panel bird should face left and then the passenger side sail panel should face right. That would have both sail panel birds facing toward the front of the car. I would like to make sure we put the decals on correctly this time. I know that we should not use the nose bird if using the hood bird but we would like to anyway.

Re: Decal placement for 1985 Trans Am

Have you had a chance to look at your car's existing decals and compare them to the kit you ordered from Phoenix Graphics? I talked to the body shop that has our car yesterday. They said the sail panel birds from Phoenix are about two inches smaller than the decals on our car. They also said all birds in the Phoenix kit face to the left. Our car has two sail panel birds and the nose bird. Two face left and one faces right. Before I call Phoenix, I would like to know if one bird should face right or if they all should face left and how many inches tall the sail panel/nose birds should be. Our car has been repainted once before so I would like to know if the decals on the car are incorrect or if the decals I received from Phoenix are incorrect. Thanks for your help.

I did check, the birds all face left,as do the originals and the replacements are the same size as the originals.

Thanks for the info. I talked to Phoenix and they told me the same thing. The guy I talked to said the larger sail panel birds on our car are the same size as the nose bird on a 1984 T/A. The person who put them on did not use the correct size for 1985. He also put one on backwards. I'm going to try and get it right this time.

Re: Decal placement for 1985 Trans Am

We did not order the stripe for the bottom with the faded dots. We are debating using the correct, smaller birds or sticking with the larger 1984 nose birds like we have. We like the larger birds better. Phoenix has been good to work with. They offered to let us exchange the small birds from our kit for the larger ones. We are not trying to make the car 100% original. Several years ago, we had a local pinstripe artist do some custom work and he added some color inside the decals. We are going to have him redo his work after the new paint job is completed. The bigger birds allow more room for his color.

Phoenix is a good co. to deal with!!! is their much of a difference in the bird size to be noticeable.

They are about 2" taller and about 1.5" wider. I think only a T/A expert would notice the difference.
