New tire, Leaking????

Hey guys, don't know whats the problem here. but a few days ago, i noticed my tire was looking really low, so i bought a gauge, and it said somethign like 11 PSI. i filled it to 40psi (like the rest of my tires) and it has slowly leaked out more and more.

Anyway, my point is, today i parked here at work, and because its raining, the tire was making a hissing noise. i ran my finger over the tire, trying to find it, and it seems to be coming from somewhere by the little weight i have on the rim/tire after i got it balanced.

the tire maybe has 1,000 miles on it. any idea what the problem could be? a bend in the rim? when i parked the car, the little weight was at the direct bottom of the tire, so i parked it again, off the weight this time, and it seems to have either slowed down, or stopped.

Anyone ever had a problem like this before? am i just looking for a pinhole? or did my tire get mounted wrong? or is it just a faulty tire bead maybe?

thanks guys!

This is quite comon. When the weight was attached it broke the seal to the rim .Take it back to them and have them remount the tire.

thye said they wouldn't remount the tire, unless i balanced it too. 16.50. not bad. still wonder if i really needed to to be balanced again.

anytime you go to remount the weight you need to balance the tire.. so yes.. you do need to get it re-balanced.. (air pressure changes every time

you shouldn't have to pay a penny to get this done. Since they installed the tire and the bead has separated from the rim, that's faulty workmanship on the original install. I wouldn't pay for it and if you already did, go back to Firestone, ask for a manager, explain the situation, and tell them they owe you some money. That's what's called a warranty on a new tire.

Well, they checked out the tire, but thye couldn't get it to leak again. the guy said it must have "set itself".

i asked if they could reseal the tire on the rim, and balance it anyway, but the guy pointed out that the tire was almost dead, and i shouldn't bother.

It doesn't appear to be leaking anymore anyway. I agree with the charge though, back in denver, i went to "discount tire" with a similar problem, and they fixed it and balanced it for free, and checked my rim for leaks. awesome place.

thanks for the reply everyone!

The tire was almost dead with only 1000 miles?

Also, even though this situtation sounds extremely linked to the weight, if you have any rust on your rims where it seals the rust will commonly cause slow leaks and some tire places will even refuse to put a tire on unless you remove the rust first.

when i bought my iroc it was needin tires, got 4 put on...about once a week id always refill my tires, 3 would get down to around 20psi since then i started working at a dealership, i had put about 20k mi on the rears and they were cashed. bought a pair, and rotated the old fronts to the back. i noticed there was a TON of oxidation on the bead of the rims. i probly spent 10-15min per rim cleaning it off.

since june my tires havent lost more than 5psi most likely due to air temp
